It's a young team and they are still learning how to win games. This is one of those situations where Butler is at home, wants the game more than we do for a couple of reasons, came out prepared to play from the tip, and not only is executing well, they are simply on fire.
Our group came in happy from the Seton Hall win, remembers that they beat Butler when they weren't as good as they are now, and basically got sucker punched. Lack of experience still showing for them. They've exacerbated the problem by jacking up one-on-everyone shots and thinking they can somehow make a 10 point play.
Mullin did some good work at timeouts getting them together so they could fight their way back into the game, but the Butler ball is just rolling down the hill too fast.
Chalk it up as a learning experience in a game they weren't going to win anyway. Certainly not with Butler hitting 58% from 3.
My guess is they come out more prepared to play in the second half, Butler cools off some (because they really can't get hotter), and St. John's covers the spread when all is said and done.
This was just one of those nights, stuff happens. You have to remember that St John's is not a top 25 team for a reason. It's all a work in progress. Right now the progress would be playing a good second half.
