We've beaten Butler at CA 7 out of the last 8 years, so as much as we talk on here about bucking recent trends, this is one that we need to continue.
 
Butler plays tomorrow at home against Villanova then two days between games including traveling to Queens for a 2pm tip Saturday. Won’t have any the other team had more time to prep excuses in this one
 
Maybe unpopular opinion, but this is one of the least enjoyable St John's teams that I can recall watching in my time as a fan. Sure, it's a good group of kids, and on paper one of the most talented we've had. But to me the talent assembled on this roster just doesn't seem to fit together. Obviously that is squarely on Pitino who put this roster together. And as someone on this board who has sat near the bench has pointed out, there's been visible frustration expressed among the players with their use. I'm just not getting the same joy I've got from previous groups. Hopefully this is just a misguided observation by me or hopefully this changes as the season goes on.

And if RJ’s last shot goes in, how are you feeling today?
 
Pitino needs to incorporate Glover into rotation today. He has a nice shot and needs to be in rotation. His biggest issue is tries to for too much because of limited time. Once he sees he is part of the rotation can relax an will help us. Not saying he is Chris Mullin or even Ron Rowan, but clearly pisses a skill no one else on this team has besides Wilcher.
 
A couple of fans have posted that they don’t have the connection with this team that they felt with previous teams. Welcome to the world of the transfer portal. Gone are the days of watching players develop year by year and see players play together for a number of years.i
Pitino keeps saying play for the name on the front of the uniform. If nothing is done to curtail the jumping from one team to another the players are going to have a tough time remembering what name is on the jersey and fan interest is going to take a major hit.

Thats not changing wleither. Didnt pitino say hes not even recruiting high school kids for next year?

Imo, Shaka has found right balance of melding high school recruits w a dash of portal guys. For whatever reason, he keeps players above the norm.

Pitino, due to his own timeline & ego is playing the short game and has not yet proven he's good at it here. The few high level sophs (Wilcher & Dunkap) we have are not where they should be 1.5 years in. There are many other freshman & sophs producing more elsewhere. Not every team is jr & sr...

The juniors....He's gotten Zuby better and Luis to degree...but Zuby is only guy I'd want back definitively. Everyone else a toss up. Glover, Maker & Lefty...to soon to call. Doubt Prey stays in US..Lefty too. Vince ? Doubtful.

As a hopelessly addicted fan, I still maintain we beat Butler at home this week and then have to really prepare for Xavier at their place. Miller may be a cocky guy, but who cares. He is a HOF level coach. He never whines about injuries or roster turnover and is incredibly good at developing game plans to attack weaknesses and scheme his defense. I think this will be a war and for SJU just another “opportunity game” to steal road game in sellout, rabid fan environment and achieve a 4&1 BE record w the next five games a little easier. Lose at X and you have to ask yourself, “How many opportunities can this team squander?.
