Butler, Sat. Feb. 6, 4:30pm, MSG (FSN) & 570 AM

IMO, the only thing worse than watching that game was the ridiculousness of this thread. Yeah we played God awful but the last time I looked we are still playing with a roster devoid of D1 players. Credit to the players and coaching staff for not making this the norm, but it is the reality of creating a D1 roster expected to compete in a top echelon conference from scratch months before the season begins. Just the way it is; criticism would be more appropriate if the coaches hadn't worked their butts off to bring in legitimate reinforcements immediately.

Instead of complaining I hope some now realize just how far we will have to go just to be mediocre. We win 15-17 games next year and that would be a tremendous accomplishment. I don't care who is coming in. 10 game jump from one year to another is really hard to do.

When you replace 4 out of 5 starters, the record the year before is meaningless.

Fortunately, they were handing out lube before the game. Otherwise, it would have been painful.

IMO, we do have D1 players--simply not 'starting' High-Major D1 players. And any guys we have that have high major potential (Sima, Yakwe, Mussini, Ellison) are freshmen.
Enough said.
Wait'll next year, brotha!

did you click on the thread expecting to see anything good being written about this game ?

Yup, good to have a little fun to deal with tough times, but reality for next year is exactly what you said man. The following year, talk NCAA T possibilities, not now. This is total reclamation project.

I'm setting the bar so low for next season it will be impossible to not exceed expectations

Absolutely. Success comes on the backs of lottery picks or upperclassmen. No short cuts. The 2017-2018 season is our year for the tournament.

Sima and Yakwe will probably start. You have good young players coming in but not a Kentucky situation. Next year the old Norm excuse of "we are young" will apply. We will be much better but would not get carried away with a win projection. This year really shouldn't even count towards rebuild. Clock starts next year on that. Next year is still a rebuild not the "wait till next year" slogan everyone keeps saying.

Just got back from the game. I'm sure everything that needed to be said about tonight has been said. So all I'll say is: I can't wait until next year!

Embarrasing performance to say the least. Talent is not there so losses are not surprising. However, total lack of effort on defense is unacceptable.

1st 8 minutes were very good. But then, like clockwork, the green light gang started hoisting any old shot (Durand Johnson is the prime offender; I don't see any aspect of his game as being good...Can't shoot...Not athletic enough to finish in traffic and doesn't play defense). I know Mullin is trying to employ a pro style offense. But the idea of everyone having a green light to shoot at any time and from any where will only work with a specific type of personnel. Green lighting after you have probed for an easy shot is fine but just plain tired of watching Johnson's convulsions.

And, Mvouika needs to be told to just spot up and wait for the ball to come his way. He simply doesn't have the speed or athleticism to pentrate or post up even against much shorter defenders.

Frankly, the most athletic looking players were Holifield and Dial.

I know that Mussini has not played well in a while. But, wonder why he has lost his starting position given that Ellison has shown very little and the seniors flat out stink. Perhaps he has hit the wall and they are trying to give hm a break. It appears as though he has lost confidence.

Mullin must have been very frustrated as he substuted en masse for much of 2nd half -- at first to send a message (IMO) and then because he simply he had no answers.

Anyway, will continue to support the team and look forward to better days.

So basically the same strategy you employ with your fantasy football team... ;)

I have a lot in common with Mullin. He sits on the scorers table ( although I didn't see him do it today ) and watches game and I sit on couch and watch my fantasy team lose

Not sure if anyone noticed (probably not since he never stood up today) but Mullin had a different chair than the rest of the chairs on the bench. It was a little taller and black as opposed to the red chairs for the rest of the bench. Almost like the chair Phil Jackson used to sit in. I wonder if he hurt his back or something and that's why he was so subdued today.
