Butler 2nd time

Sir' Dom needs to shut down Roosevelt Jones.

The kid Dunham is a player. Bartow, their pg, played a great game against us also last time. They have a nice team, and play well as a team. Ranked 25th, preseason figured to be at bottom rungs of the Big East - so much for prognosticators.

There is a lot to like about Butler's program. Nine of their kids are from Indiana and neighboring states Kentucky, Ohio, and IL Maybe not Looie's recruiting with a roll of subway tokens, but by all means a tank of gas. Gotta respect that.

That being said, must bring an A game to beat them. We didn't play poorly last time - it was a good, competitive game. Must bring it. We need the W.

This is all true, but we also need to remember that Jordan didn't play last time, Dunham was unconscious from 3 (shot 6-7) and we lost by only 4 points. Maybe we play a similar game again this time, Jordan helps us score a couple more baskets, and Dunham actually misses more than one shot from 3. All feasible and not long shot assumptions, and it doesn't have anything to do with matchup advantages or disadvantages we have with them. We can beat these guys by playing a very similar game to what we played last time, and just executing slightly better (which may just happen naturally with Jordan now in this game). Let's not make Butler out to be world beaters here.

Very good points, especially about Jordan. Even as a player with miles to grow, he creates huge problems for opponents because of all the things he can do well. All things being equal plus Jordan bringing a B+ game, and we can beat these guys.

I would also add that if Dunham or Jones need to chase Jordan on the defensive end this game, that their legs will pay for that in the second half and impact their shooting %. As you said, bring our B+ game (i.e., execute) and we'll get this win we so desperately need.

I know he wants to help his family by going pro but think if he stayed another yr his value would double with the NBA

at this point, unless he pulls a Dlo with john lucas. I want him no where near this program next season. he's been a prima donna and a cancer this season.

I agree. Sans Jordan we can't beat the good teams.

Then who guards Chrabasz?
CO will guard Woods.
They are a tough match up.

Agreed, these are difficult match-ups. I just think Roosevelt Jones is the guy to take away. He is like their Sir' Dom......but not quite as good.

Jones: 12.7 Pts. / 5.8 Rebounds / 3.8 Assists
Pointer 12.2 Pts./ 7.4 Rebounds / 3.4 Assists

We can beat them but it will be real tough. Harrison is not 100% I don't care what he says. That's a huge difference from the first matchup along with it being on the road. So having Jordan is a big plus but we can't look at it as we have a better shot now.

we need to slow down Dunham, we can't give him open looks and he has a really quick release, if Sheed gives him a hard time we have a chance, plus, we can't get caught in a half court game with them we need transition baskets.

Glancing at the box score, it's easy to see why we lost the first time against them. They outrebounded us 34-26, including 10-6 on offensive glass. We allowed them to shoot 48% from the field, including 58% (7-12) from 3 point land. But perhaps most importantly, our bench tallied a total of 14 mins (9 from Jones, 5 from De La Rosa) and the only statistical contribution they gave us was 1 rebound! Expect a much different game with Jordan playing, and Amar getting some of those bench minutes and hopefully at least some boards.

Sir Dom has to guard Chrabasz, just scored 30 points. CO takes Woods. Figure Jordan on Dunham, Greene on Barlow and Harrison on Jones. Hopefully D'LO is fully recovered because Roosevelt Jones can burn us. We have to box out and cut their offensive and defensive boards. Pointer's matchup is the key IMHO. We have to believe Lavin will not go to a zone anytime in this game.

Here's some questions for you and others:

Has Jordan ever refused to go into a game?
Screamed at teammates or coaches?
Gotten into a fight on the court, even a shoving match?
Gotten a technical foul even?
Walked away from the huddle disinterested?

Everything we know about him is stuff that has happened off the court. In an age of social media, just about everything that happens gets reported. Cancer is something that spreads, and I don't think Jordan's issues have spread to other players.

By the way, the players we all adore have done some of the things on my questions list. Let's just worry about what the kid does on the court, and let the coaches handle the other stuff.

So Bob Wenzel will be one of the announcers. Hopefully he will remember D'Angelo's last name. At his last game he called him D'Angelo Russell.
I really think Jim Jackson is a hellava analyst. Right on the money in my opinion.

Forget Chrabasz, that's a once in a year game. He will not hurt us to that level. Concentrate on Barlow.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but haven't we been primarily playing zone over the past 10 games or so? I thought that was being done out of necessity to preserve energy.

Without Barlow, they don't beat us the first time let alone beating Marquette their last game.
