Bucknell game

@SJUCoachLavin: We’re emphasizing with our players that Bucknell is a Sweet 16 level team that we’re facing. #SJUBB

@SJUCoachLavin: Biggest game of the year for us because it is our next game and it’s a team that will likely end being a Sweet 16-caliber team. #SJUBB

What's he gonna tweet when we face Univ. of San Francisco?

He needs to ban himself from twitter for the season.

It's like he's trying to get people to purchase tickets by over hyping the opponent. I'm not denying that this is going to be a tough game but Bucknell is not a sweet sixteen team.
No reason they couldn't be.

Maybe he is sick and tired of seeing his team moral down because no fans show up to Carnessecca so he is trying to up sell it.

Fwiw IMO last game had good attendance for a game against a non-power opponent. Crowd was quite good.

7 point favorite according to statsheet.com. Seems high on the face of it, but I could also see us being up by a couple in the final minute or so, and then Harrison putting us over the point spread with some late FTs.

What do want coach to tell the team, these guys stink so we dont have to worry about them? I think some people here look way too hard to find things to criticize him for

Losing sight of the forest while examining the bark of a tree.

We were irrelevant and now are considered a team to be reckoned with.

Should have thought of that when making the schedule.

Last yrs game against S. Carolina the fanbase and the players were able to get excited about playing a sucky major conf opponent in a way they had not for mid major opponents. I thought Lavin and the AD would have learned from that and we would see more major conference cupcakes instead of so many of these small schools no one has ever heard of. If early season ticket sales are less than the best they could be, Lavin shares some of the blame.

Not sure you know what you're talking about. All schools need to schedule these types of games. How many major conference opponents are you going to get to play in Carnesecca arena? We were lucky to have a South Carolina game there. In addition, we already played Wisconsin on neutral site and have games against PSU/Ole Miss in Barclays.

Last game had about 4500 st Carnesecca for Wagner which was quite good. Regardless, major conference cupcakes just don't happen and they won't come in droves to Carnesecca arena for an away game against a major conference foe early in the season. The exception is an early season tournament. It just doesn't happen and that is pretty much across the board. Only reason South Carolina did it last year was because it was part of the Big East/SEC Challenge and they had to...

To add to your post, MCN.... A good, mid-major squad can actually be a better game rather than playing a bottom-rung high-major team.

Not suggesting that ALL ooc games be major conf opponents, just more than currrently on the schedule. More schools that the students have actually ever heard of. It would not be impossible to have brought in a couple of majors. There is no reason for 4 consecutive crappy opponents. We need not play both Longwood AND Monmouth, and why, during a Winter Hoops Festival that has VCU, BC and K-State in town, are we playing Colombia ?! Also thereis no question that the schedule is far weaker than it should be considering the conference is not nearly as strong as it once was, which makes the Dartmouth game all that much more perplexing and a missed opportunity.

After Columbia almost knocked off the number one team at their place I think they are the more intriguing team and may bring more fans than we do.

Bucknell is another squad that likes the 3 ball and has balanced scoring. 45% from the 3 and 52% overall. 4 guys average 10 or more points a game. A win is paramount but we also need to show more defensive intensity on the long ball. I expect this game to be close the whole way and one or 2 lapses on a 3 point shooter will hurt. Like the Wisconsin game after we cut it to 4. Hoping Rysheed has a break out and Sanchez keeps going strong. The whole game is about building and getting better throughout the season...

Going to be a tough game... Well coached well balanced team!! Going to need Jordan to step up and control game.... Very tough team to play catch up on! I think we win 72-67

I am a gambling man but I would not touch that spread.

I don't fixate on stats but I'd like to see us move up a few spots after this game on both the offensive and defensive 3pt statistics.

If we could make those flashes of slick passing we saw in the last game SOP, we might actually have something of an offense.

Seems high, but when a line seems out of wack it's normally a good bet, Bucknell looks too easy. Go JOhnnies

I tend to agree. Going slightly off St. John's for a second, going in to the year I thought that BC might be sneaky good enough to make a run at the tournament. I have nothing invested in BC (in fact I have always disliked them) but after they went 0-3 to start the year I pretty much thought they were done. But I checked out their schedule and I must say that I really like the way Steve Donahue put together his non conference schedule.

Instead of piling on patsies to come to their building, they are going on the road to face major conference teams who are looking like they are going to have down years. Going to Purdue, USC and Auburn. Also going on the road to play Providence and Harvard. Their only legit patsies they play at home are/were Florida Atlantic, Sacred Heart and a DII school. And that's not even mentioning neutral site games against UMass, UConn and VCU.

It's only two games in to the season but with the depth of this upcoming draft I can see everyone who has eligibility coming back next year and, if that's the case, this is the kind of scheduling I'd like to see.

Do you realize that we have no choice in playing Longwood AND Monmouth. They are part of the Barclays Center tournament.

How does that work? I noticed them on Penn State's schedule as well.
