Bucknell game

Not for anything they need to really be prepared for Bucknell. Only lost by 4 at Stanford, beat Penn St on the road and blew out St Francis (PA) tonight. Bucknell is not a cupcake as some might think. I think we win, but only by single digits.

Listening to the post game radio show on my way home Friday night, one of the announcers, I forget who it was, said, "St. John's needs to be careful with Bucknell. Wagner came in here thinking they could win. Bucknell is coming in here EXPECTING to win."

Should be a good game.

as a team they are shooting 52%,from the field, 80% from the line and 45% from 3. We are shooting 44%, 78% and an anemic 8% from 3. 8%?? That just isnt gonna cut it. I'm sure that's last in the NCAA.

They were a very good team last year as well and are very dangerous. They should test our three point defense.

You are correct sir.
St. John's is #351 out 351 Division 1 schools in three point shooting percentage, at a sizzling 8.7%.... That is the lowest percentage by far. The next closest 'competitor' is at 14%. Even if we doubled our % to 17% we'd barely move up the ranks... to #348th in the country...

Last year, St. John's was #341 out of 347 schools according to ESPN, at a slick 27.4% clip.

Gulp

Looks like another great 3 point year

Our job is to make the life of a Bison miserable. Press, make them pick up their dribble, force them into bad passes, and turn them over. If they get comfortable looks against us, what good is it having athletes? Of course we got to make shots in order to press effectively.

Last year's team was built around Mike Muscala who scored more than 25% of their pts, pulled down more than 30% of their rebounds, and also led the team in assists, blocks and FG%. Only one returning player scored 3ppg or more as they lost two of their other top 3 as well. This team has shown it's pretty good and their coach has proven he's good for a while now too. But this year's team has nothing to do with last year's team. They only play 2 guys 6-8 or taller. Would hope to dominate inside.

Agree. Probably be favorites by one point.

It's all in the recruiting. If you recruit athletes who scored off fast breaks, steals and rebounds then our three point percentage won't get any better. Guys like Calhoun (UConn) would be a big help right now.

We don't score off of fast breaks and steals either. We should be but we don't. Everything comes in our halfcourt.

To be the worst team in 3 point shooting in the nation is embarrassing. Also seeing that many of our shots are just one foot inside of the 3 point line.

That reeks of lack of discipline. Greene and Sampson are the worst culprits of that.

The theme on offense needs to be penetration. Either penetrate and dish or penetrate and create for yourself.

Hate to bring his name up but if there was anything that Nurideen was good for, it was that (so glad he's gone but just using him as an example).

Branch- low bball IQ. He settles for the midrange way too often or forces a difficult shot for himself.
Greene- don't even ask.

Sheed has to and will be the guy.

I just feel that he needs to be encouraged. He has the proverbial "it" factor. There's not a guard on Bucknell that can stay in front of him. Scrap the 3 guard starting lineup, stick Sheed at point and let it rip. He should not be playing off the ball and neither should Branch.

Only if the field was cleared of players first. And fans. I like players that hit threes during games, under pressure, while running up and down the court, playing D, helping out on the boards, and moving without the ball to get free.

Just stop it.

Max hasn't had enough minutes to hit 3s during a game. He's better than all of you want to peg him out to be.

And the day when stubborn Lavin gives him critical minutes in a game and he explodes, you'll be in here saying how amazing he is.

A shooter cannot get in a rhythm in mop up duty.

This is on the coaches, not Max.

Everyone here hopes you are right. Two games doesn't tell us much about Max, other than he didn't get much run. The problem is that every opposing coach knows that Max is out there for one reason. His defender will stay close, assuring few open looks. Until Coach Lavin gets comfortable enough to give Jordan the ball and let him create, don't count on D Lo, Phil, Sampson or Dom to create, draw defenders, and kick to a stand alone Max. No team will double Obekpa in the paint, leaving an open man somewhere. Didn't happen much for Bourgault, and he got enough minutes. I am sure he is a nice shooter too when left alone and in a rhythm. This offense just isn't ready to put a guy like Max in a position to succeed. No other deep threat. No drive and kick guys. No one worthy of a double team. Maybe Coach should try Bourgault and Max together. That should be fun, as long as you don't mind less rebounding, defense and ball handling on the court. Sooner or later Max will get his minutes, as everyone will pack it in against us. Until then, he is the next great long distance hope. Chucky Sproling, where are you?

Yes, that was Brandon Tierney...Bottom line we need to come out attacking the rim...If we do, we should have no problem...if we settle for jump shots, we may have a problem...

Don't forget Hooper did hit 10-11 3's in the european game against a pro team. That has to count for something. Everyone needs to get into a rhythm he has not had the opportunity to and its only been 2 games into the season.
