Branch

To the group: if you were lavin, do you do whatever you can to win the marquette game - ..... And then punt the villanova game by resting obekpa, harrison and branch to heal some ailing injuries?

I know its conservative, but may not be insane either

Of course, the branch component of that still needs to be evaluated further

I understand the thought, but I think you have to play to win, especially if you are rolling into Nova on a high. Momentum is a funny thing, and to just give it away would be a little crazy to me.

Classy kid, great teammate, true team player. Was very, very happy to see him play such a significant role in today's big win (especially on Seniors Day). Really stepped up when he needed to. We'll need him if we're going to advance in the BE and NCAA tourneys, so here's hoping he'll be 100% game-ready as soon as possible. Get well fast, Jamal!

What are we the San Antonio Spurs? Duncan, Parker and Ginobli are not walking through that door! In other words: a resounding NO! Also: HELLO! You play to win the game!

How many wins we getting next year?

You guys should still win quite a few even without Laury, I mean it's the MAAC, c'mon.

I would try to avoid the question too

So you honestly think anyone takes you seriously when you say we? Of course not. No one ever takes you seriously. Back under the bridge, man.

So how many wins?

It really depends on who's on the team so until CO and Rysheed, Lovett and Diallo, and any other recruits make their intentions known it is impossible to make a prediction.

If CO and RJ returned they'd be starting 2 top 50 players in RJ and Sampson plus CO as a top 100, better than many if not most. I I will say that Keith Thomas missing this season was a big loss. Keith Thomas missing next season is a HUGE loss.

A lot of Ifs and depends sums it up. I'm not ready to wave the poms poms for Lavins return because he squeaked into the tournament with a highly ranking group of seniors

You will never wave poms poms, whatever they are.
Envy is yourform of flattery. We feel for you. :(
We be not you and you not be us.
We encourage you to enjoy your Iona Gaels and you should be thankful you have a St. John's man as coach, even though he is a bit of a nut job.
Nice to have two teams from the NY area going to the Big Dance. As for sneaking in, if Iona loses in their tourney, you will be lucky to sneak in while St. John's could lose in the first game of the Big East and still get in. :p
Finally, there are so many similarities between the two programs: Hall of Fame coaches. Great conference. Your seniors play their last home game at the 2,600 seat Hynes Athletic Center. St. John's seniors have to settle for 15,000 fans at Madison Square Garden.
Sorry we have to disappoint you with ifs and depends scenarios about questions regarding the future of St. John's basketball. Wins don't come as easy in the Big East as they do in MAAC or whatever the name of Iona's conference. Wish we could count on easy wins against pussies like Siena, Marist, Quinnipiac, Manhattan, Monmouth, Fairfield, etc. while we have to play against Lions like Villanova, Georgetown, Xavier, Butler, Providence, etc.
Enjoy the rest of your evening with your hot cocoa.

Announcer said a pulled groin. Yow.

Anyone know more?

cheerleaders working on it now. He'll be fine

Thank God our cheerleaders don't look like the Iona girls. Here is a picture of them celebrating winning the Ugliest Cheerleader Championship.

Hate to say it, but after celebrating today's win into the late-night hours, they don't look so bad to me.

@BrandonTierney: MRI for #Johnnies G Jamal Branch on injured groin today...

I hope Jamal is OK. That would be a terrible way to go out, at least his career would end with an assist and one of his top 5 overall performances as a Johnny. I still think he got a raw deal here and should have had a longer leash the last few years but he's been a steady contributor and we may not win yesterday without him.

I was told by someone close to the program that is actually was a hip flexor but who knows; did say he was getting MRI'd tomorrow. Neither is very good news obviously.

This is one of the most important threads to me at this point. Please post updates. I am hoping for the best. Not only did Branch provide an adequate backup for Harrison yesterday, I thought he stabilized the team, allowing Jordan another ball handler in the game. Amar, JDR, and Felix can only be emergency reserves in an NCAA tournament game. We need our top six to get any wins.

To me he has distinct value when we get mired in half court sets.

He excels in breaking down a zone. High basketball IQ and his ability to drive and finish is something this team needs.

So if it's a pulled groin what's the expected recovery time?

Hip flexor recovery time?

Based on personal experience, if he really puled his groin, he may not be back this year.

I don't even know what a hip flexor is.
