I'm pretty confident in saying Brady wouldn't be able to switch onto guys with ease as well as our top six does. I do think he's a very good communicator on defense and gets to the right places, but I can see teams wanting to pick on him. The cost/benefit analysis for the team would boil down to him hitting shots or not.

Like I said, I want him back on the team. I like the guy and think continuity is paramount in this era. I'm just not sure if he's playing 25mpg for us next year that our defense would still be the 2nd best defense in the country.

I take you point about CRP changing it up, however the D is worse no matter what approach is taken when Brady is in the game, only because the other top 6 are fantastic defenders and for all Brady's assets he is not up to their level.

No team picked on him, didn’t happen and you keep insisting you want him back while listing all the assumptions you use to opine why he can’t play at this level.
Well, he played at this level, effectively and positively. But your assumptions of “I’m pretty confident” and “I’m just not sure” obviously carry way more weight with you than the eye test and the fact that Pitino chose to play him the 7th most minutes on the team.

Very much a relative statement, Dick Barnett was not as good a defender as Clyde but he was still a good one. Brady is a good defender and I think his minutes played certainly leads one to believe Pitino thinks so.

When Trilly posts guys like it means he has solid intel that player is almost definitely hitting the portal. Probably about 70% of D1 players with eligibility remaining would be considered a "portal candidate"

I am agreeing with you and again understand that. But I've been relishing in the level of D this team has been playing as has the staff and it would not be at this level with Brady on the floor as every team would try and isolate him off switches. If Brady was healthy I'm sure he'd still be seeing more time than Ayo/Glover/Lefty combined.

This is the last comment. Brady really didn't play much this year, it's hard to judge him especially with the injury. But against our best opponents, its a mixed bag.

New Mexico -- only played 7 mintues and was ineffective the entire game.
Baylor -- hit a couple of 3s, but also one of our worst defensive games of the year.
Georgia -- I give everyone a pass, but he was just as bad as everyone else.
Kansas State -- Brendan Hausen absolutely cooked him. He wasn't effective at all. But again, he was playing with an injury so I'm trying to be charitable.
DePaul -- was nursing an injury and don't think its worth really analyzing.

If you go by "Game Score", a stat that measures box score stats, four of his worst games this year were against the above competition. "10" is an average performance. He scored -4 against UGA, -.5 against K-State, .2 against DePaul, 1 against New Mexico. He got a 5.3 against Baylor.

Nothing's proven about him. I want him back. But we can't act like he's proven to be a very solid contributor to a top 10 team, let alone an upper echelon team. Rick was trying to add another guy in the portal along with Prey (Watkins, Mitchell, Omier) for a reason.

Fair enough but the fact that they play such team defense makes isolations extremely difficult and I just think Brady is a much better defender than you guys do; however no question I did miss a good deal of the gist of your post.

He averaged a little less than half a game while he was playing so not sure ofyour definition of “play much” but maybe he piled up minutes in blowouts, certainly possible. As for your “game” analysis I have little use for the analytics you are so in love with. With all due respect I consider them fodder for people who can’t watch a game with the understanding of the “game within the game” and the cause and effect that yields particular results; stats unto themselves reveal nothing to me except sometimes interesting trivia.
Anyway, ultimately we just disagree.

Well the fact that there are 3 with SD in the name helps. Not sure if there are any others.

I know LA is larger but we have at least 10 or 11 D1 basketball programs in the greater los angeles area I can think of.

Watching Houston last night, I do wonder if we go hard for a center to start next year. Zuby can obviously defend fours and Rick's played around with him and Prey. But we would really be turbocharged if we can get a bonafide starter at center and Zuby can work on his outside game. The Zuby/Reed match-up on Friday kind of scared me. Watching Omier, it would've been insane to have both of them together on the floor.

If you look at the top five teams in the country, their frontlines are huge. It's like the SEC's historic advantage of big guys on the offensive/defensive lines, just this time its front courts. Prey/Zuby/Maker (? -- not just throwing you a bone, maybe he can play the Vince role) is a start, but having a guy who's a legit 6'10" 240lb would be nice.

My post was assuming we kept everyone. If Smith doesn't return, we will need a top PG. If RJ goes, we will need a top two-way wing player.

I think Maker can give us that centerfielder by next season for up to 10-12 minutes. He has a long way to go with his body transformation, but his instincts are very good.
