Bowling Green, Fri. Nov. 9, 6:30p, FS2 / 570 WMCA

Does anyone have any update on the seriousness of Keita’s knee issue? Right now I think it’s a stretch to think we can beat Rutgers with their size. They have 6 guys 6’8 - 7’0 and 5 of the 6 are 245lbs and more.

I think Steve Pikiell, Associate HC Karl Hobbs and Assistant Coach Brandin Knight along with Director of Player Development Greg Vetrone will watch this game, figure out a game plan and dominate us inside.  If Ponds and Simon continue to play with their heads up their asses I don't see us pulling out a win if Keita is out.  Lack of size became painfully obvious against Bowling Green.
Lack of size creates a snowball effect. We double down on the bigs, and that opens it up for uncontested threes. Defend the bigs one on one, and Clark and Keita will be raising their hands a lot before heading to the bench. Tariq bailing really hurt. Never thought I would sat that. He played 10 minutes in Texas Tech's opener and had 6 blocks.

I agree. This team is going to need a real coach soon. The playground basketball theme isn’t going to cut it anymore. This was embarrassing.

These kids are not coached.

Let's be grateful the opposition isn't the best. It's aggravating to see our players missing so many shots. I hoped they'd be better...but they are what they are. Fourth in the BE looks about right.

The first three minutes of the game we passed the ball crisply & then we reverted to the one-on-one ball we've played the last three years. While undersized, this team has enough talent to play much better.

Reporting live from the Carnesecca parking garage. Still catching my breath and trying to find what’s left of my voice. There were a few times we went on runs but they always had an answer. That kid Frye is like a better Mussini. Very skilled player. BG is a big team and they exploited it well on us. Did my part and more to get the crowd going, but can’t do it all unfortunately.

Thank god for Heron who saved us tonight. Ponds is a bit hobbly and apparently so was Keita. If we have a real shot of beating Rutgers we need both healthy next week. We missed at least 10-12 bunnies at the rim and missed 4/5 FT’s in the last minute or so. Thank god we escaped with the W. Very annoying BG fan who looked to be about 16 and kept jeering the crowd waving around a BG hat. Johnnies fans respond with an a@&hole chant gotta love it. Survive and advance. Cardiac kids. We easily lose this game last year. Next 3 games will be season-defining.

Tariq was TERRIBLE covering his man. All he did well was help. He was always on ice skates and easily backed down. This kid was 6'10 240 and would have eaten the 205 lb scrawny Owens alive. Clark shut him down and Heron was throwing him around and then scored 25 on the other end instead of getting nothing from Owens on that end.

Their big men combined for 15 pts and 16 rebounds with 6 turnovers. Heron and Clark combined for 41 pts and 11 rebounds with just 3 turnovers! What coach wouldn't take that?

In year 4 a player like Keita should have been a back up to a legitimate big man 6'9 or bigger. Now we become the smallest team in the Big East with him out of the lineup. Watching the 6'10 BG center post up Trimble, Simon and Clark is an insult to the talents of Heron, Figueroa and Ponds. We gambled with two sit out transfers rather than sign some bigs.
One can only imagine someone like a Chris Obekpa on this team (minus the ganja).
Impressed with that BG squad. They were 16-10 at one point last year and that was with Frye as a freshman (all MAC rookie team). They will win 20 IMO and I wouldn't be shocked if they stole one from Buffalo. That kid Turner would be in every rotation in the conference and would start for at least half the league. He's legit.

Some great lessons from tonight. We saw almost an entire game of Clark, Heron, and Simon on a legit big man who is an NBA prospect. That is a glimpse of our March. I was impressed with all three on him. Heron was throwing him around and he was 6'10 240!

Simon had back to back strong post ups for easy points. He's moving closer the the PF role I want for him. He's just an inferior option on the perimeter to Heron and Dixon. He's so dangerous 12 feet and in.

Very happy these guys had to grit it out instead of winning by 30.
Wiggins is an NBA prospect? OK.

I'm going to hold onto this one.
My point is the next 3 games are against teams which figure to be a lot better than the first two teams we've played.
Fair point.

In Florida with no access to the game on FS2 on Comcast. That's another story. Following the game here, it is apparent we have many posters who know better how to coach this team then the horrible staff that is running the show. 80% of the commentary is negative, for good reason. It's the same BS coaching approach now in its 4th year. Its old and needs to be dealth with. I'm not a huge poster, but what I've seen the past 4 years is a disgrace in terms of coaching.
To go along with a putrid job getting some legitimate size on this team.

Rutgers picked to finish last in the B10.

Don't want hear about how improved they are or playing at the RAC being difficult. Need to win and quite frankly win convincingly. Remember SJU should be insulted they were given the pre-season last place team in the B10 challenge. They are considered a top tier BE team this year they should have gotten a Purdue or Indiana or even Nebraska again.
If SJU plays like how they played tonight, they lose by atleast 10.

BG opened up the lead killing us from the perimeter, often because we double down low. They couldn't hit a thing from beyond a layup in the second half, so they drove at will or dumped it to one of the bigs for a trip to the line. At least Owens would have rejected some of those drives. BG is not a very good team, yet they were right there at the end. I would take Owens on this roster any day of the week. Heck, I would take Adonis at this point. Maybe Heron's disaster at the line in the last 2 minutes was from fatigue banging with bigger bodies all night. It certainly couldn't have helped. We are a big short. Plain and simple.

I am one the biggest Mullin fans, as are almost everyone on this site, growing up watching him play. I also, have been a high school basketball coach for over 20 yrs. I just dont understand the stagnant 1on 1 offense. No flow, no screens, 1on 1 while 4 guys stand around. Lack of al ow scoring threat is a major issue.

My thought on this is similar to horse racing. Sometimes you just throw up a stinker. In fact, I assume before the start of the season that we are going to throw up 4 stinkers a year (2 in non conference 2 in conference). It's nice to know we can still eke out a victory when we come out flat as a pancake.

We will beat Rutgers, I promise!

There was no way that #1 from Bowling Green was 240 lbs. Not even close. Bowling Green must be listing him as such for intimidation purposes.

According to ESPN he is listed as 6'10'" & 240 pounds. I guess all that height makes him look thinner!

Hopefully, Keita is healthy for Rutgers. Regardless, Josh Roberts has to get some light in these games. I know he’s only 215 but he’s 6’9 and looked ok in the garbage time he played in the first game. They need to get some minutes for him now to get him experience because sometime during the season we are going to need him due to our lack of size.

Why would you "hold onto" it? I didn't say the kid would get drafted. He's preseason first team All-MAC over a projected second round pick center (James Thompson from Eastern Michigan) and he declared for the NBA draft last year. Does that not qualify for NBA prospect to you?

They played against Bowling Green not Duke. Heron and Clark were not playing against Zion Williamson, Bolden and Cam Reddish.
