Big wins that I was at .

Not many posters were around at the time but the last regular season game of 58-59 , my freshman year was a game of significance. SJU beats NYU on a long jump shot by Tony Jackson at the buzzer. Both teams were sure of NIT bids so the win simply gave SJU the mythical city championship.
What was significant was I believe all the players were from the NYC metropolitan area as well as Lapchick and Rossini, the two coaches. Of more significance , a writer for the Post wrote the next day was this game finally showed the NYC area was putting the scandals iof 1951 behind. The garden was jammed and the interest in college basketball was back.
Both teams had star players , Jackson, Seiden, Alfieri on SJU, Ramsey and Sandes on NYU.SJU went on to win the NIT, NYU was eliminated in the semi final game

NYU went to NCAA final four the following year. Think the NYU guards in 58/59 were Artie Loche and Russ Cunningham.

SJU was playing Boston College in the Wed games. Werdann was playing so it must have been around 1990. Tickets were selling really cheap outside the garden so I ended up on the floor. Five minutes into the game Rod Stewart walks in with a stunning blonde with an usher carrying a stroller with their infant placing the stroller in the aisle.
I had no idea that Rod was a soccer fanatic and must have had an interest in basketball because the Stewart's stayed for the whole game.
