Big wins that I was at .

Holiday festival at the old MSG over Michigan . Kenny and Bobby MCiNTYRE AS WELL AS sONNY dOVE excelledin that game . We came back from 15 down in the last 8 minutes .Johnny defeat of St. Joes at Alumni Hall .I remember Hawks first field goal off the opening tip , and I said OMG we eventually won .Redmen blow out of visiting Kansas team at Alumni Hall Albie Schwartz put the clamps on Jo Jo White . Johnny victory over visiting Tennessee, the Bernie and Ernie show . The two of them were in foul trouble in the first three minutes .I know Stevie Honzo did the Michigan game I'm not sure if he did any of the other gamess .
I love the reference to Steve Honzo--there was a ref who "believed" in home court advantage.

Biggest win--NC State in Denver 1985 to advance to final four. What a plane ride home! Also, the 1983 BE Championship with Billy Goodwin sitting on the rim--still have that SI. Thought the 1982/83 team was better than 1894/85 but loss of Jeff Allen hurt. Was at the Dome for horrid loss to Georgia-what a lousy place to watch a game in.
The great Steve Honzo did ref a few SJU games after the Michigan game, and I'm fairly certain the last one he officiated at was the Army-SJU 1970 or '71 NIT semi-final, where he called a phantom foul on Army as time ran out. Rich Lyons hit two free throws and we won by one point. Army coach was Bobby Knight and he reacted as you would expect.

Was lucky to attend a good number of great wins -- including the one with Billy Goodwin celebrating -- but that Holiday Festival beating of No. 1 Michigan is still my favorite -- a Michigan team that looked more like a Big 10 football squad than a basketball team -- in a tournament that, back then, was the nation's premier mid-season tournament, with eight quality teams competing. It was also a great win for Coach Lapchick in his final season.

I see many mentioned some of the games I attended. One I didn’t see mentioned was a February game in the 1985/86 season. If I remember right it was No. 8 SJU vs No 6 Syracuse at MSG. It was a weeknight game toward the end of the season. We had seats in the student section. Just a row or two off the floor. A group of us arrived early. For some reason their was some kind of game before the game. Don’t remember if it was two local teams or a women’s game. Anyway, draped all over our seats were the Syracuse Orangemen in their warmups. Rony Seikaly and his ugly ass sitting in my seat. I didn’t want to say anything but my brother and some of the guys I went to school with were feeling no pain and basically said f—- that. They “asked” them to move. Before anything could happen we were surrounded by ushers who asked for our tickets. So they did have to move out of our seats.
Anyway, the crowd that night was electric. Toward the end of the game Willie Glass threw down a cuff dunk on a 2 on 1 over Pearl Washington and basically landed on us. I’ll never forget he let out a primal scream and him and the Truth got right in Pearl’s face. In not so many words he said something to the effect F you Pearl it’s over. The building was so loud I could barely hear it. We were going wild. We won something like 86-79. I hated Cuse so I never forgot it. The crowd was so loud that night my ears were ringing when I got out of the subway that night.

I can think of a ton of Islander and Knick games that were big wins, but I'm sadly having trouble thinking of St. John's ones. I've probably seen them lose a lot, though.

Biggest I've been to were:

Win over Nova a few yrs ago at MSG
Win over ranked Marquette a few yrs ago at CA
Win over Duke few yrs back at MSG
WVU game this year (looked bigger when they were borderline top 10 but still very good win)
Was also at a Cuse game at MSG when they were ranked #2 with Ennis as their PG and we went right down to the wire. Should've had that one but lost by like 5.

I remember the game well. Pearl Washington scored something like 32 or 34 points that night. It was a late February game and the start time was 9pm (ESPN).

I vividly recall the dunk you mentioned by Willie Glass. It was off a pretty, no-look pass per Mark Jackson. I was in the 7th grade. Wow! How time flies....

Good story, dude!

Was there as well. What I remember best is Walter Berry hitting a big shot near the end of the game, and a young man about 18 who was quietly sitting by himself right next me jumped up and hugged me in celebration. Great game, great win; but I can assure you I wasn't in the seventh grade -- not even close.

I was a sophomore at SJU at the time. I believe I had a big test maybe it was a mid term the next morning. I don’t think it went too bad but getting home from the Garden around 1 a.m. or so sure as hell didn’t help things. I think I made a good decision as that memory is a lot better then some damn exam all these years later. LOL

MJ, I think you are right late Wednesday sounds about right. By the way, Pearl was special that night. Hats off to him he was relentless. NYC guard all the way. Sad that he passed away much too young. Hard to believe.

I wasn't lucky enough to be at that Syr - SJU game but that is why you don't leave MSG

Here's another winthat might not have "great" but was truly sweet. In 2003/04 season of the goodby Jarvis and the Pittsburgh party, we were at the nadir of the schools BB history. Starting walkons and a big man with big physical problems. On Feb. 18th, (and we sat through all their games that year because I believe--SJU Forever), the starting line up included Hill and Cuffe with super sub Andre Stanley, Phil Missere and Curtis Johnson. Off the bench was "Country" Joe McDonald. That one night they beat arch rival Georgetown and that was sweet. One had to feel for the players who wore the uniform of SJU and all they had gone through and the win was the only one that group achieved.

I remember that game. It was televised on CBS on a Saturday. It was during the '88-'89 season (Sealy, Werdann, and Buchanan's freshmen season).
And Matt Brust hit some huge shots in that game, pumping his fist each time as the ball hit the net. Great win. There have been many over the years. SH and Nova last year were a lot of fun. The Duke wins with Hatten, then Hardy and two years ago with Ponds. The win vs Gtown under Lavin when we scored the first 15 points of the game...that was a lot of fun. Gtown fans bailed by halftime. They had owned us during the D’Lo/Pointer/Greene early years, and then we finally unleashed on them.

When we beat Duke at Duke. Only a national title win will probably top that ever for me.

I was at the game, in 1983-84 season, where SJU beat eventual national champ, Georgetown, in Landover, Md.

Playing Utah at MSG. Possession Utah we are, losing by one with seconds left in game. Alfieri has ref stop the game looking for his contact lens. Now Utah has to take the ball out of bounds and can't get it in time. The Johnnies hit Lou Roethel between the top of the key and the foul line who cooly takes his hook shot for a one point victory. Never found out from Gus if he faked losing his contact.
To top it off that day I stayed around for the night game between LaSalle with Tom Gola and Cincinnati led by none other then Oscar Robertson. All I remember is Oscar had a ton of points and Gola wasn't bad either. What a day!

Come to think of it the NCAA playoff in Knoxville,TN wasn't bad either. We faced a favorite Maryland squad and blew them out of the university of Tennessee gym, allowing us to move to the Elite 8 game against Ohio State.

This was also one of my favorite wins. I live in MD surrounded by Terps fans. As I recall we were up by 40 at one point in a game we were supposed to lose.

20 points was our largest lead that night versus Maryland. The lead coincided with our 18-0 run to end the first half, as well as us scoring the first two points of the second half (20-0 run altogether).

I watched that game with three other friends at a sports bar (two Georgetown fans and a Duke fan). I had a ball that night clownin' with those dudes to the chagrin per one of the Hoya fans (he didn't think the Johnnies had a shot of winning that night).

So many but here are a few that I attended in no particular order:

1983 - Beating BC (who had beaten us both times during the regular season) for the BE Tourny Championship.

1985 - Beating then No. 1 Gtown in Landover when we were No. 3. We wound up being No. 1 as the No.2 team lost that weekend also.

1985 - Bearing Cuse at the Dome as Chris Mullin silenced the 30,000 Cuse fans by stealing a pass, going down court alone bouncing the ball high, jumping, catching the ball with one hand and throwing it down. Only real cheers you heard from them the rest of the game was when someone stole the head off of our mascot and ran off with it.

1986 - Ron Rowan hits a pull-up baseline jumper giving St. John’s their only lead and Walter Berry sealing the victory by blocking the Pearl’s shot at the buzzer for our second BE tourney Championship.

2000 - Winning the BE Tourny beating UConn (who had beat us for the championship the year before).

2018 - an 0-11 in conference St. John’s beating top 5 ranked Duke at MSG
Still my favorite:

Watching that clip and listening to the crowd gave me chills. I was out of town and missed that game. One of the few that I missed since being a season ticket holder that i regret missing.

I was convinced we were going to beat Ohio State as well. Oh well.
