all the best (of times)

Wonder whatever became of those knucklehead naysayers who kept spewing that nonsense about how difficult it was to recruit to SJU/NYC, how NYC kids all want to go away, how many of us were living in the past, how we'd never be relevant again, blah, blah, blah, blah. As I said all along, we were one good head coach away from sustained relevance. We now have our man.

Guys, let's not get too far ahead of ourselves. The earliest any of these kids can step on the court for us in the Fall of 2016. Getting them on campus is great, getting them to commit is even better. In most cases, this will be one of many unofficial visits this kids will make. Having this many at one time is impressive and the idea of getting ST. JOHN's on their mind early and often is a winner,

However getting them to commit, sign and on campus will take more than this. The players getting on campus still does not mean that there are kids who want to leave and go elsewhere. It has been that way in the past and always will be. St. John's also can be a tougher sale when it comes to campuses. It has been in the past and will be for the foreseeable future. But we still have things going for us including the staff and the area ( which some kids want to stay in while others would like to come). I have the utmost faith in Chris and his staff and the fact two potential obstacles (coaching and recruiting ability) has been IMHO rectified. It would be great to get some area bluechippers to stay home again and hopefully on a consistent basis. But there will still be some that will have no interest.

You get this many kids on campus and I am confident that eventually we'll be able to seal the deal with some of them, and that's all we really need. Think about it, once we fill out the roster we need 2-3 kids per year on average. Does anyone here feel that this staff won't be able to get 2-3 quality kids per year? This is such a far cry from what we've seen from the last 3 coaching staff's that it's tough not to get a little over-enthusiastic.

I'm not expecting anyone to commit this weekend (although that would be great) but I think having so many kids on campus together presents the possibility that any group of 2-3 of the kids will develop a relationship and want to play together. If that happens on our campus and we are recruiting them all hard, it could pay off down the road.

To be fair I thought the same for the first 18 months of lavins campaign. But no I dont feel the staff will fail to get players :) Lets hope im not 0-2

I'm pretty sure most of these kids have been on college campuses before and will be again. Do you think after visiting Jamaica they'll turn down invites to Lexington, Chapel Hill or Lawrence? That said I was a cynic on the short term implications of the hire and the staff have convinced me that I was wrong. But let's sign more than 1 top 100 freshman before we start guaranteeing a return to the glory days.

It's all good what is being accomplished this weekend!
Now is this novel, legal, whatever?
Why has SJU not done such a recruiting extravaganza before?
Have any of the "big boys" done this?
I wonder...
But the concept and reality of it happening at SJU - priceless. Another remarkable accomplishment so early in the game for Chris and company.
Some young man will commit as a result of this weekend. The stars are aligned. Take it to the bank.

It is very impressive to get this many good players at once. Never seen this before in my 30 plus years of being a fan.

You ever see anything like this happen around here before? Because I sure haven't. While it's not a guarantee of a return to our glory days, if not a level above, it sure as hell is a very good start.

Our coaching staff is pure class, and really work to be among the best.

Any thoughts on which 2016 kid could be the first to jump on board the Mullin express?

Don't think any real talented players will be jumping on until they see if mullin is the engineer of an express train or just the downtown local

He'll get a couple of commitments this summer, trains or not.

Clever!

@RHoopsRecruits: American Pharaoh will visit St. John's when he is finished reproducing, according to a source.

@AdamZagoria: Sounds like Chris Mullin and St. John's put on quite the impressive show today for 15 recruits and their coaches. Story later.

Mr.Paultzman
Would you speculate on which recruit (s) and when - as to your observation that we would get a few commitments "this summer" in your post above...
Thanks!

Coming soon (I hope)-Paultzman the podcast, for all our SJU info.

Added Arbitello: “It was just nice to have everybody together from New York and that gym being St. John’s….It was impressive, it seems that everybody in New York is on the same page right now.”

I firmly believe that the large majority of NYC High School and AAU coaches want a successful basketball program at St. Johns. Its good for everyone.

Echo the post above mine. I don't care if not one of these 15 commit, per se, but this shows we're committed to recruiting New York and it shows how hard working our staff is to have 15 stud recruits here at the same time. Nobody is sitting around here. How anyone can spin a negative on this is something I can't wrap my head around.

On a side note, multi-reply blows and makes this site a lot harder to read, IMHO.
