Big East Recruiting during the 2014 cycle

I started this thread to highlight that IMO the Big East has done pretty good recruiting which is important for Conference security and stability. I was concerned that Conference recruiting would fall off this season after the Syracuse and Pitts fled to the ACC and the Conference moved from ESPN.. Fortunately my concern was misplaced.

I'm pretty sure that was one of the two reasons you started this thread. That point is well-taken, but so is the other point that most posters have picked up on.

Good to see that the Big East teams are getting it done. We, however, seem to have a "pull a rabbit out of the hat at the end" quality to the recruiting. Coach Lavin's strength is recruiting. We should be expecting 1 top 30 player every year at some point soon. The staff has whiffed on everybody so far this year. Delarosa seems like a nice prospect who might develop by his junior year. That's fine, but if he's all we're getting this year, we're gonna be the "youngest team in college basketball" again in 2015.
Front court rebounding and scoring has to improve dramatically for us to make it to the sweet 16 and beyond.

BE conference has 2nd most Top 150 kids only behind ACC.

In addition to its successes in recruiting it is also noteworthy to point out that the Big East Conference has the third highest RPI as a conference behind only the Big Ten and Big Twelve but ahead of the ACC which reflects on the quality of basketball being played.

With 2/3 the teams.

And us not getting anyone.

Which will change.

We're going to get a Rivals Top 150 kid?
I think not. There are a handful available and we're after none. And don't say Josh Cunningham because we have slim to no chance there. We haven't been on him in awhile.

Did you and marillac go to summer camp together?

Hahaha this is good....

New Haven, Connecticut is such a ways away from SoHo. I guess Tim Brando's show was more crucial.

@AdamFinkelstein: Kevin Ollie, Bruce Weber & assistants from UCLA & Minnesota among others here at National Prep Championship

Which is why they will get a minimum 4 bids

I too would like to see the staff getting the school on more lists of top rated recruits and do agree that the success rate for this year is lower than we've come to expect but let's remember that in theory STJ is returning top 50-60 players at every position next year andon the bench another one plus a guy who's averaged almost 30 mins per game for 3 years. While you can certainly make room for a great talent there is not the appearance of tremendous opportunity in the first year but certainly someone who's going to stay for a while can't help but see the chance to have a tremendous role years 2 and 3. For a Whitehead type that was obviously very important.

Have a feeling we are gonna be big time players for some transfers once the season ends
Hope they all have a sick aunt or dog or a turtle in the area so they can be eligible immediately! :)

Lets hope a "big time player" picks up the telephone or e-mails our hard working staff and expresses his interest in attending StJohns.

We don't need a transfer. We need guys that can be impactful for us next year.

That might not be an option. All 3 (If no one leaves) new comers wouldn't make an impact next year and it might be too late in the game to pick up a real impact player. Would you rather have the 3rd guy be a bench warming freshman project or an impactful transfer who could step in for 2015?

Otis- I know our staff comes off as very hands off and that can drive me crazy at times but they are not lazy. They've shown in the past that when there is mutual interest they will be relentless
