How is Owens able to wear a long sleeve shirt under his jersey and not die from the heat ?

The air was comfortable up top.

The team played great and there was air in the building. It left us wondering if we were sitting in CA.

New maintence guy was highly recruited. :)

I think it was a major positive that our entire team saw minutes last night. I suspect the rotation will tighten as we play better opponents. Guys should be looking to impress to earn minutes going forward. Especially, kids like Owens and Williams. I think Owens showed something last night and maybe he gets more opportunity. On the other hand, Williams looked shaky to me. Coach Mullin needs to identify the players quickly as we step up starting in Minny.

Owens clearly has value & three years to go. Williams doesn't appear to & won't see time unless there are several injuries. I doubt he will be on roster next year. Just part of developing a team with talent and depth, someone always falls out of the mix.

Exactly. And irrespective of the fact he has 3 seasons to play Owens has shown a great deal both games. Williams and AA clearly have a big uphill battle in trying to get pt and while I hate speculating on transfers I would not be surprised if either player did not return next season. Clark will be taking minutes next season.

Awesome game. We can forget almost entirely about positions. We have 3 littles, 3 mids, and 3 bigs. All of them are capable and all are unique. Most importantly we have a team full of basketball players not just athletes who play basketball.

I just wish Paultz would lend a clue as to how he feels about our freshmen guards ;)

iI was at the game and was very impressed. While I realize the competition was a step down from big East play it showed me this year has the potential to be a surprise. The win was good but by running up the score for the second game in a row helps create a "Buzz" .....and a buzz puts ass's in the seats and get the media to take notice. It makes the students change plans and want to see the game. That is the best you can expect from a win like this. I look forward to seeing how we perform against Binghampton and another blow out (if possible).

Question..Any recruits at the game? Damm I hope so!

It was more than a step down from Big East competition but I share the enthusiasm .. Good teams are supposed to beat bad ones by 50 and in recent years this was the type of game we would squeak out. For me the positives were Lovett obviously but Owens really surprised me with his activity and Mussini looking natural finally playing off the ball, No recruits but there was a couple of the OSNA people present which always helps with Doucore and Drame twins :)

Additional long term positive is the expanded options. Last year our outside game was Mussini or bust and after he wore down it was bust.

This team has more outside options with Lovett, Ponds, Freudenberg.

As you mentioned competition was not up to BE standards but you can see that these kids are talented. Adding the transfers and Brown to a team of juniors and sophomores next year will result in a very good team (IMO).

What stood out to be most last night? Halftime adjustment by Chris Mullin, going small that turned game into a blowout. #sjubb

Late thought on #sjubb: For those, especially WASJU,who thought Federico Mussini would be afterthought are wrong. He's a weapon now at natural position.

I agree with what you both said. I was hoping (praying) that we could get something out of Williams. I think not. Our weakness is inside. We still may need to get something out of him or AA. That is why I thought it was a good thing getting everyone in. TO is sooooo thin. Did anyone see Michigan State last night? Inside they look bigger than our guys (because they are). It will be a challenge when we play them, that is a certainty.

This team has a ton of versatility. 2 great ball handlers. A handful of good shooters. Nice wing players like Bashir and Malik. Big men who can protect the rim AND rebound AND provide some timely offense. It's 1 game but I'm feeling good about 21 win prediction!

Looks like Chris Jones landed in a good spot. SJU is deep and talented, but at UNLV, he started at center last night and went for 20 and 13. Game story said South Alabama was even double teaming him at times.

It's not that Mullin intentionally ran up the score ,played the second unit, tried different combinations and end of the bench and everyone played well.

Also the kids are trying to prove themselves individually and collectively, and are vying for minutes. So you won't see much let up from anyone regardless of the score.

He played 35 minutes in a loss at home. Sounds familiar.

Was he under-utilised his first 2 seasons at SJU , probably.
Did he contribute last season, yes he did.
Did the staff have good reasons to let Jones go , I am sure.
Best of luck to CJ.

Agree about him being underused. Just one head scratcher of many. Having said that, I really liked the way he finished last year and would have loved for him to have stuck around for another year. Given a choice, I would have preferred him over AA. But whats done is done, and expecting it will work out just fine for both CJ and SJU.

Have to keep our excitement in check until we play a real team. This was a squash match, as was the Baruch game. What I do like is that this team plays basketball. Many of our recent teams played a version of the sport I did not recognize. I guess it shouldn't surprise us that Mullin knows what he is looking for in a player. Paramount will be the ability to shoot and pass the basketball, and to have a high BB IQ. The main gripe expressed on these boards over the past, well, many years is the lack of good basketball instincts in many of our players. It's a pleasure to see great ball movement. I expect growing pains, but do think that this will be a NCAA team by next season. We have too many guys that can off on a given night, and can withstand a few players having off nights because of our depth. I can't believe I'm saying this one season removed from one of our worst records ever.

CJ was a physical specimen and I wish him luck at UNLV. He was not going to get anywhere near the minutes as he did in the UNLV loss but a factor in letting him walk was that he didn't make anyone around him better during games, especially in big games. Yes, he did contribute near the very end of the season but as in the old saying it was too little too late. We needed Mussini to shoulder the scoring burden and Alibegovic for the biggest win of the year against Syracuse. In short, as a 4th year player he was part of the chemistry problem last year rather than part of the solution.

Said it repeatedly, but if it comes down to CJ vs. Amar, I'm all for CJ. Period (who paid his dues) ... plus he'd open a roster spot at the end of the season.

I expect that there will be Molloy people in our games, too. :)

+1000

Seems all of our rotation - at least those on the perimeter - are a threat to score themselves or to set up another teammate. That alone makes you tough to guard. Its an added bonus that those same guys all seem to be capable shooters and their bigs are athletic and don't need the ball to be effective.

As for our bigs, I'm pleasantly surprised with Owens. He is insanely long, seems to, from limited exposure, have a nice touch from 12 feet and in, and isn't afraid to mix it up despite not being built like a banger. Do we really lose much if Sima is in foul trouble and Owens comes in? One thing I see in him is an intense desire to prove his value. He is a high energy guy. In fact, the whole team is playing like they have something to prove, and that's a good thing.
