Bethune Cookman, Fri. Nov. 11, 9pm-YES/570AM

,What a difference a year makes. Mullin has this unit looking for the open man, with excellent passing. Look for more assists this year. One thing that stands out for me is the fact we can use Owens, with his boards even though he may not score. Reason being we have very good depth. As far as defense we seem to be switching and helping out, and that is due to our speed.
Nice to see Mullin sticking with Freudenberg. Ellison finishing and playing with such confidence .Mussini looks so comfortable as an off guard. Wow! We actually have a four guard backcourt. Lovett is a player but you know that. Both he and Ponds don't look like freshmen. Nice impressive win tonight.

I think Lovett is the real deal. A high caliber college point guard. What a nice weapon to have.

My only critique tonight was why they don't use Ahmed at the foul line against the 2-3. When BC went zone we had Bash out on the perimeter wing, and used Yakwe to flash to the high post.

I don't understand that. Yakwe isn't a threat to turn aND shoot, and he's not the most adept passer. Think it's a role built for Bashir when we see zone defenses.

is there a scheduled replay of the game?...my dvr had an internal fight with itself and didn't record it.

Chris you can watch on Directv (Channel 693) at 1:00 am.

Thanks Jack...wishing I didn't have FIOS right now! My 8 year old son will not be happy with me when he wakes up, but at least he can read the box score and summary.

Even against a zone Yawke has the speed to power to the basket off the foul line, especially if the defense is playing up in his jock strap.

Great start to the season. A very unselfish, efficient team basketball. You can tell these kids like playing with each other.

Lovett looks like the real deal total floor general. Owens was fantastic great energy also very vocal leader. Missuni will be a big part of this offense kid can flat out score.

I don't think we will be seeing or hearing Goodmans "st jean" tweets this season. Mullin was coaching .

Great start to the season!!

Our biggest win last season was by 22 points against UMBC. This game was so much fun. Only negative was the rebounding and Bethune-Cookman was really small.

Was told Chris Mullin opted not to start Marcus LoVett Jr. because of a "minor" disciplinary issue. #sjubb

Chris not taking any excuses. I'm fine with that. Lovett played great anyway and seemed to be really happy during the game and cheering them on when he was on the bench.. Get these learning experiences out of the way now

And Coach acted accordingly. There was a minor disciplinary issue and our best player received a minor penalty. The other day I wrote I like the way our coach speaks and today I am saying I like the way he acts. The inmates cannot run the asylum and I hope it won't happen again. The players, staff, fans and media will hold Coach Mullin in higher esteem for holding players accountable for their actions.
Well done Coach.

Had trouble going to sleep last night after the game
Haven't been this excited about the potential of a St John's team in a long time
Thank goodness for 10 mg of Melatonin

Was at the game last night and here are some of my observations:
Turnovers were minimal unlike last year.
Offense appeared to be more cohesive
Mullin was much more engaged in so many ways!
Mussini was much more effective not handling the ball, I would post him up all season long. This kid can shoot!
We are so deep this year with so much talent!
Huge improvement with regard to Ellison!
Owens appears to be more offensive minded than Sima!
Ahmed will be huge for us this year. Not afraid to mix it up!
Freudenburg struggled last night, but you can tell this kid has good fundamentals and great height! For some reason he did not shoot the ball much last night.
I realize that Bethune is not a quality opponent, but you got the sense that there is so much more talent this year than I can remember in recent past years.
I think Jay Wright was correct when he stated on WFAN that you will not want to play us by year end!
As far as wins this year, my gut feeling is that we are going to surpise a lot of people!

Haha. Melatonin gives me vivid nightmares for some reason but even that wouldn't have happened after a game like last night

Wow, I realize this is inferior competition but even still this was a nice start. A few observations.
Positive:
1- Lovett is going to be special.
2- Ponds will be fine. He will get better and better.
3- Very unselfish play last night. Love it or is it Lovett!
4- Owens played well. Still very slight.
Negative:
1- We need better play inside to win.
2- Too many open 3's early.

Can't wait till we play better teams to see really where we are!

Wish I could have seen the game, but just read Zach's writeup and going through this thread has me actually feeling optimistic. Maybe premature to say, but it sounds like we may have hit paydirt with Lovett-- if wasn't for all the school switching in HS, he could have ended up at a Louisville or Arizona. Anyway, excited for Minnesota game.

Wait until you're my age, Mike
Melatonin is one of the greatest gifts to mankind IMO
