These games count. It does not matter how good we are playing in Feb, if we have a couple more of these we will not be playing in March.
 
Just more the same this year. To quote my old HS Coach Russ B. "cant hit a bull in the butt with as shovel if it was tied to his tail" Plan to do the same this year as in the past watch some great efforts some incredibly confusing efforts and wait for the NIT selections.

the way they are playing, they can put the balls away by February because there wont be an NCAA or NIT

Calm down we have one bad loss in OT because we missed free throws. Doesn't matter how a team gets a win because a win is a win no matter who you play and no matter if you were suppose to blow the team out or not. We will make the dance , the way were playing were bound to get better . For a group that has only played 7 games together that have counted no doubt about it we will only be more dangerous in a few months.

I just want to see improvements every game.
 
Did not see a minute of the tournament games. Did we at all look better than the efforts against Monmouth and Longwood? Was there any evidence that we coasted those 2 games and played with more intensity/effort for the last 2 games? The blurbs I read indicated we had 2 very good second halves. Any thoughts out there?

Yes the second half play was much more intense than Longwood and Monmouth but the first halves were similar. Although Lavin says the Penn State game was the best game the team played all year, I thought the intensity of the last 13 minutes of the Georgia Tech game is where the team needs to be on a consistent basis.
 
Our second half play all year has been terrific (hopeful sign). I didn't see the Penn State game so I can't really comment. You don't get a good feel from listening on the radio. They did make some crucial mistakes in spite of the comeback. One more free throw and we would be talking about the comeback instead of the mistakes and slow start.

The Ga Tech game was as stark a difference between the two halves as you can ever see. We absolutely stunk up the first half. The second half was, both offensively and defensively, as good as we've played this year. I ran into a young lady who was a Ga Tech grad on Saturday evening. She said that she and her group were bored in the first half, thinking the game was an easy blowout for them. She was absolutely shocked by how well we played in the second half, and was terribly disappointed by the loss.

Kentucky has a freshman laden team who are expected to go through some growing pains. We have,by current standards, a veteran team. who most of us expected would hit their stride well before February. If Cal talks about his team hitting their stride in February, he's talking about them getting ready to make a run deep in to the tourny. Not sure what Lavin is talking about when he says that.

UK used a seven man rotation against Providence. Five freshmen and two sophs.
He had good reason for his comments. Our comments sound like excuses even if they are not intended as such.
 
I have no patience, there is no reason to be patient, the time for patience was the previous two seasons and not now. I expected this veteran team that added 3 key pieces and had a summer trip to come out of the gate strong and play good basketball irrespective of the opponent. No one can or will convince me to be patient with this group.

Agree.

Is this "patience" supposed to be eternal ? Why are the standards for what constitutes success being lowered and the timescale for when it is to occur being pushed back? To hear some on here, barely making the tourney as bubble team followed by 1st round exit will be acceptable...........next year.
Some of the Lavin defenders here seem to care more about Lavs career than the success and prestige of the program

Some Johnny come latelies even suggested some of us that have been following the program since the stone age did not understand how long it would take to "resurrect" the program as if we were not aware three previous coaches over the last 15 years also made that attempt but failed. Some here even were reluctant to fire Norm Roberts after 6 years of mediocrity.
Why are the standards for what constitutes success being lowered??
That is a great question!
