Baruch Game

This will be a fun team to watch grow and improve this season.

Tariq Owens so far: 10 rebounds, 0 points. Has done a on a lot of nice things, but lacks confidence at offensive end. #sjubb

I agree Owens has long way to go offensively, at least runs court well.
Can't speak for others but I want my big man to board and 10 boards , even against the Sisters of the POOR, is nothing to sneeze at. Don't care if he can't do anything but dunk. But if he can get 5 boards a game coming off the bench behind Sima and or Yakwe we will be in good shape. Not everyone needs to score.

Small sample, poor competition, but believe Freudenberg will get a lot of minutes with ability to rebound adequately, pass & score at both the 3 & stretch 4 spots. I'm sure Mullin appreciates his heady approach to the game.

Zach
Federico Mussini led the way with 21 points, Bashir Ahmed had 19, Marcus LoVett 14, Shamorie Ponds and Richard Freudenberg each 12. #sjubb
5 guys I double figures? That can't be right.

Which kids have nicknames already because these kids are fun to watch and might need some nicknames

RF we have like 4 already.

Ponds ? I'm going to go with Misdemeanor because he is going to be picking a lot of pockets this season

Lovett ? The human handgun because he throws bullets

he's so skinny he looks like a Mini Manute Bol
Minute Bol

Sima is the only one who seemed to come out with less than I expected against a small team. At least he shot well from line. Just never see him play with much intensity.

Beyond Holifield. noticed what looked like a few other walk-ons in sweats high fiving and walking off w/ team from mid court

That Ponds suggestion is already reserved for Zach Brown, assuming sentence reduction. :)

as long as we don't have to call him felony :)

Overall very encouraged. We have depth, athleiticism and showed good movement on offense and defense. Our newcomers are fantastic, and our returners like Mussini improved. Yakwe was a little quiet but still has monster games ahead of him. Sima just still needs to add intensity. It's not his skill that is a problem. Owens didn't do much on O, but 10 boards? That wins games. Overall very good initial showing except the first 4 jittery minutes.

Mussini will contribute more than I thought, but let's not get carried away. He is not finishing those drives at the rim in a BE contest.

Lovett already looks likes a veteran out there. #Leader

Bashir is explosive going to the hole. He should be told to attack, attack, attack.

RF, as previously stated, can do it all. He is going develop into a star as an upperclassman.

I thought this was a good first game/scrimmage for the team. This is a much more talented group of kids and it will be interesting to watch tem grow this year and beyond. I don't know what to expect in terms of wins and losses and would like to see what we look like against a stronger team. I think the backcourt will be the strength for the next few years. It is inside where will need to find the answers.

Hard to top:
Marvin "The Defendant" Barnes

As you've wisely said before, Paultz, bigs take time. Sima has tools, seems to be a great kid who works hard. I think it will all come together in time and, when it does, he is going to be a very solid two-way big in the league.

Really wish Sima would dunk those

Still a bit mechanical & lacks explosion, but I'm keeping the faith with him.

I'm glad that my flight to New Orleans for the Tulane game I booked today won't be to just drink Hurricanes. That's a winnable road game

Like last year's team, this is an easy group of kids to root for. No headcases, no attitudes. And they really seem to like and respect each other. They all represent the school well. Kudos to the staff for bringing in kids who not only have talent, but who are of high character as well.
