-I think we'll defend the perimeter better once Keita is back. We're so concerned (rightfully so) with giving up points in the paint that we have to collapse hard which leads to a lot of open looks. Hopefully we won't have to scramble as much when our big is back
Great post and this is really spot on. Team tries to avoid easy layups inside by their opponent by collapsing in the paint and would rather take their chances with missed 3-pt attempts.
As others mentioned, the fact that they were able to fight through some adversity last night and still get the win is promising. However, I think the adversity is an indication that Mullin needs to expand the bench a bit. Even if it's getting guys like Williams and Roberts 5-10 mins a game should help with keeping other guys out of foul trouble as well as getting these guys some experience should they need to step up and play more.

How much did he play? The box score says 0.
A few seconds actually
I didn't know I was required to balance my posts with an equal amount of positive and negative comments or that they were being monitored by human resources. This a basketball message board, not Sunday mass.
My frustration with Mullin is rooted in the fact that he seemed to be absent most of the offseason and resisted in any change that might have helped the team move forward this year. His comment regarding the level of talent his first two years was insulting to those kids who really had no business being on a D1 team. He should have kissed their fannies instead of disparaging them.
I'm thrilled that they're 5-0 (even though the teams have been subpar). I hope they win 30 games this year and Mullin is hailed as a coaching genius, however, I suspect his deficiencies as a coach will come back and hurt them.
This is an exciting group of talented players with no quit in them, and learning how to play off each other and grow as a team.
We’ve 5 - 0, and I think they’ll improve through the season.
Let’s enjoy watching this team come together and root to dance deep into the NCAAs.
Happy Turkey Day everybody.

I had the game recorded and set to extend for 15 minutes and started watching it at 1 am without looking online or this forum, of course the game ends up in OT and I missed the last minute and half of play because my box stopped recording (next time will extend for 30 minutes). One thing that I noticed last night that I hope works itself out is that Figueroa's basketball IQ may be just a slight level above everyone else on the floor and I hope that among the shooters the players can continue to learn each others flow. There was times that I felt that Ponds could have let the other players touch the ball more and I think the other players may have been frustrated by that. Also contrary to popular belief I thought that Fran called the game well given his history with the program.

With delayed starting times and possibility of OTs I would splurge and extend your recording time an least an hour to an hour and a half.

This is the worst fan base ever. Yes some things need to be addressed but at end of day no coach alive or dead would have a better record at this point.
And getting on Ponds after last 2 games is down right stupid. I agree would like LJ to get more shots but Marvin Clark shot 2 for 19 or something and Heron also had a bad game. If Ponds would have shot less we would have lost. But I am starting to think that is what some of you want.

Dont feel like reading through 25 pages of trash like you mentioned. How did you think dixon played last night?

He played well. This is a good example. It is ok to criticize something. Dixon drove me crazy first 4 games. But he played well last night and that makes me happy. I don't want Dixon to play bad just to prove some kind of point I made about him. I want him to do well.
In regards to Dixon his defensive instincts are bad but was watching him and you could see he was making a concentrated effort on that end last night.
It is almost like maybe the jump in competition has sped game up for him. Last night was his best game obviously.

We played 5 games homie! We are 5-0. Of course if we count the make-believe game against a shitty URI we lost to we would be 5-1. But we get your point!

If we are 11-0 going into BE I don't care if we win every game by 1point and I don't care who we play that would be a good thing. But people will still complain. Listen I understand complaining. I come on here during games and bitch. But once game is over I am just happy we won. My bitching stops. Some on her have no off button.
And Ponds is not perfect but wow, how people are complaining about him is mind boggling. Guess best player syndrome. People on here like to complain about our best player. See Deangelo Harrison

Figueroa is already my favorite player on the team. He’s an old school kind of player: Heady, undercontrol, selfless, etc. He’s also really intense as evidenced by his reaction to Simon’s bad pass to him. You may be right that some of the other kids are frustrated at times by Ponds, but I also see them as resigned to the fact that Ponds is going to go one on one in a lot of situations. So they just stand around and watch. As we start to play against better comp, Ponds is going to need to have everyone involved in the offense in order to keep the defenses honest. Hopefully he’ll be willing to do that.
I will admit that I know less than 99% of the posters here, but here is my take. I really don't like that Ponds took more shots than Heron and LJ combined, but I want the ball in his hands in the last 2 minutes of any close game. He is an assassin.
Take away Slick's heroics at the end of the game and he did not do his job as the point guard and impressed no NBA coaches last night. This is his final season and his only shot at the NBA is proving he can distribute the ball. He completely disregarded talented and frustrated teammates Heron and Figueroa. That he took shots without ever passing the ball to another St. John's player on a half dozen possessions was a very very bad visual for scouts. I love Shamorie and have watched him since high school but his tendency to go 1 on 1 has not been controlled by this staff. Of course since we play such an unstructured offense and no 3 point defense he will always get his points. He needs to be more of a team player like in the Rutgers game.

Yeah I wish he would have gotten Clark and Heron a few more attempts at misses. If he would have scored 21 and we would have lost by 12 he probably would be a lottery pick
