I could see your take on Fran's comments but I took it differently

Thought he meant more along the lines of the transfers not being so green to college in general, a higher level of play & expectations.... along with working out the early kinks a freshman might have.
I thought he was just saying you are getting more of a finished product. I know some on here will disagree but I like Fran as an analyst and think he has been fair with us. Though the "Norm was about to get things right" thing was nonsensical and possibly just a shot at Lavin.

Always been conflicted about Fran. Think he would’ve been a great coach for us, if not for his ‘anger issues’ and his ‘grand ambitions’ and think he knows the game cold.
A missed opportunity for him and St. John’s, but yeah, I love how he covers games.
One of the best college commentators imo.

The definition I see of bought and paid for is" corrupted by money from special interests: bribed" I think he, as a former coach, meant exactly that.
I agree that’s (I think) what he meant, although I don’t think he meant to say it.

Really tired of seeing Trimble criticized on this board. The kid obviously worked his behind off this summer to get in shape and clearly the staff appreciates his value on defense and not turning the ball over. Shot will come as it did last year. He had a big block and a big steal in the comeback run last night. Kid is a good teammate and a perfect seven or eighth man.
Yes very odd. Like bullies picking on the easy target. Same happened with Amar on here. Kid might not ever make a shot. and he clearly is not the athlete that everyone else on team is. But he is playing hard and playing within himself. Kid is not that skilled but plays hard. If Keita had not gotten hurt and Dixon played harder Trimble would barely be getting any mins.
Watch the games! Watch how Trimble defends on perimeter in comparison to Ponds, Simon and Dixon.
So when you dump all over Dixon that's OK but if I give my opinion that Trimble is not a good defender despite what a number of other posters say-that is bullying. I have no problem with Trimble overall and don'y mind him getting PT just disagree that he is playing good D. Many times he goes to cover a guy who starts to dribble and he turns his body sideways and reaches in-this is terrible technique. Other times he gets blown right by. Only thing he does fairly well is body up against bigger players posting up which is what I guess others are giving him credit for as being a good defender.

Dixon effort is questionable to say the least. Not just the way he backed off shooter yesterday which could be chalked up to very low basketball IQ. Watch Dixon try to avoid contact when going around screens.
Do you think Trimble not giving effort?
The reason Trimble is playing is because Dixon is screwing up, Keita is hurt and clearly Mullin does not think Roberts or Williams warrant minutes.

I think the difference is we are sju is questioning effort not ability. It's my view that if someone is giving 100% to do what the coach wants them to do that's all we can ask, but that's just my opinion. Also, if you watch the press conference after the Bowling Green game both Coach and Figgy went out of their way to compliment Trimble on defensive intensity and helping to turn things around. They would seem to be in a good position to judge.

Questioning someone's effort is a bigger indictment than questioning their ability. I said I have no problem with him playing or his overall game but disagree with those lauding his defense. That is not bullying. As for the comments of coach and Figgy that is being supportive of your player and your teammate and I did say he does body up well in the post against bigger players so that is probably what they were referring to. My problem is with being called out for bulling although I wasn't mentioned or quoted personally. Seems like we are basically agreeing. As poster Anthony Mattia mentioned I wouldn't even been saying anything if other weren't frequently lauding his D which I disagree with.
Not knocking Dixon, but whenever I saw him at Quinnipiac defense was not his forte. Secondly as a small, thin kid he is antithetical to long guard era. Lastly, he is not a natural point guard. Obviously he will improve, but I would not be surprised to see him as a role player for his remaining time here. Next year I suspect Mack runs point & if they land a long guard like Precious MD’s role will be complementary again. Fans tend to look at transfer’s stats from a conference like the MAAC & assume the player over time can replicate past numbers. I would not assume that.
You thinking Mack gets the nod over Wright as the starting PG next year?

“You thinking Mack gets the nod over Wright as the starting PG next year?”

Eli Wright is a slashing wing, not a PG, so yes.

Bamafan,

We are partially agreeing and where we are not agreeing, we can agree to disagree. I will say that Mullin & Figgy's comments were unsolicited, it wasn't like the reporter asked them how did you think Trimble played. I am not saying Trimble is a star, only saying I believe in being supportive of our guys especially when they are clearly giving 100% effort and are not trying to do more than they are equipped to do. With respect to his shot, he had similar problems at the start of last year and this board roasted him then, but he gradually got his confidence and shot started to fall.

I hope we can pull tonight's game out. I am visiting my kids in Jersey and will have to miss it other than checking phone from time to time. I really think after this one we will have games coming up where Roberts, Williams & Earlington can get some run.

Wright is a 2/3, not a point guard. Having watched him practice, I think he will do well next year.
