(Baha Mar Hoops) #13 Baylor, Thu., Nov. 21, 7p, CBSSN

Had to check:

In basketball, the game clock starts after a free throw when the ball is legally touched by a player after an unsuccessful free throw or a missed free throw. The shot clock starts when a player takes possession.

It only takes 2.5 seconds for a player to go end to end.

Zuby felt the pressure after missing the first of two, and missed badly on the second. Devon defended the shot well.

I don't feel it was a devastating loss. We played a very good Baylor team dead even, and it came down to 2 free throws and Baylor nailing a very tough good look at the buzzer.

It was in my memory a lot like the Syracuse loss at Alumni Hall except we had an 85%;ft shooter on the line in that one (Rencher). Louis Orr made a buzzer beating layup in that one.

When we elected Rencher to the Hall of Fame two years ago, when we finalized the inductees, Kathy Meehan smiled and said "But he should have made those free throws" without giving specifics. We all knew and all laughed.

Having said that, the game was between #5 SJU and #2 Syracuse and the other three top 5 teams had lost that week. When hated Syracuse called timeout to ice Rencher, in jubilant realization of that fact, in unison the sold out crowd loudly chanted "We're number one!" A few seconds later almost dead silent disbelief.

This game doesn't come close to that for me. The next two are the sweater game and FF losses to hated Georgetown. No hate for Baylor here. No rivalry. Just a very tough loss.
I thought of that Syracuse game also. I was so devastated with that one that I left my house and took a lonely walk around Prospect Park Lake

Wait, if it was reviewable? Why was it not reviewed? Is it the staffs job to ask for a review? And if so why wasn’t it? When I first saw the play the first thought that came to me was how if the rebound was tipped did they advance the ball so far down the court to take a good shot?

I hope this was not a blunder by the staff.
According to an article written by Braziller today, A Big East source said the whole play was reviewable "to determine if the shot would’ve been good had the clock started when it should have and disallow the basket." Apparently, nobody on the St. John's coaching staff called for a review. If they had and St. John's prevailed, this would have shoved it right up Drew's a**.

Late to the thread. Was able to keep an eye on the game while working last night. I had a very limited number of observations.

1. Texted my wife late first half that SJU was playing well but had plenty of time to screw it up in the second half. Unfortunately that proved true but when they failed to push it to 20 and instead let it get cut to around 14 at the half you knew trouble was coming. So did Pitino, he called a TO late first half I'm sure to try to get the team refocused and not get too happy but it didn't work - the momentum was gone.

2. Aaron Scott is a clutch shooter and a great defender. Pleasure to watch.

3. We just got bullied inside in the second half. I was worried about that earlier in the season but it seemed to resolve the last game or so. But maybe not.

4. Kadary Richmond is like a Rorschach test for our fan base.

5. Deivon Smith is a damn good player.

6. As much as I appreciate his physical skills, watching RJ Luis makes my brain hurt. The frequency with which anyone who knows anything about basketball can see trouble coming and yet he doesn't is astounding. You can see that he is trying to learn (he sometimes even passes the ball before it's too late) but it's just painful to watch.

7. Leave Wilcher alone. He's gonna make you eat all of your criticism before the season is over.

8. Very low expectations for tonight's game coming off of that loss BUT critically important for the staff to get the team back up and ready to play. We can live with a double OT loss to Baylor. Losing to Virginia is another story.

And this is why our videos coordinators need to stop watching porn during games :)

I was crazy or stupid enough to re-watch this game besides all the mistakes which have been discussed to death on here, who were the announcers they seemed like Baylors local guys. Let go Johnnie's and as mad I was last night we are a very good team and I'm very encouraged for this season!

With 42 seconds left in the contest and a 4 point lead we have possession in the front court. Instead of running clock and forcing Baylor into a tough foul or defend decision, we drive to the hoop attempting a shot we don't need with 25 seconds remaining on the shot clock that is blocked and retained by Baylor. Wtf? Like a 5th grade cyo team would do.

Are you on 24 hour delay? 😉😊🤣

Baylor down 47-20 at the half vs Tennessee. I don’t think they are that good, Johnnie’s should have won.
They did....get a moral victory after the replays showed the clock started almost 1 second late. The shot by Roach should not have counted but would you rather we'd lose to Tennessee by 25?

Just looked at the replay. You're wrong. The clock should start when it touched (i think) Luis' hand, which deflected to Baylor. Clock was started if any one tenth to two tenths later, human reaction to start clock, not a delay. Watched it 3 times to be sure.

Human reaction ? Say one thousand one....as soon as it touched Luis, and that second comes off the clock. The timekeeping at the arena was atrocious in almost every game. It's all water in the sewer now.😉
