Attendance and Atmosphere

What do you guys think for Sunday? 7-8K? less?
With a possible snowstorm scheduled for later on Sunday...I'm thinking somewhere around 5-6k.

the snowstorm will have or should have nothing to do with attendance. The snow is due late afternoon and it will begin as rain.

Less

Yet I'm on ticketmaster and the cheapest ticket is $45. Dont' see how a casual fan would consider paying that for a marginal product.

Good point on the overpriced tickets. However, St John's plays on the same court as a local pro team that truly is marginal. They draw pretty well.

....And their prices are much worse. We have a winning record and have played in lots of meaningful games. This is supposed to be the Mecca of basketball. It's not the ticket prices, we just do not have enough fans.

Some games tickets aren't even available for the upper bowl. They need to have another tier for prices. Maybe just make it 4 sections upper available and charge $15 or $20.

A father with 2 or 3 kids just isn't going to spend $200 for tickets but he will spend $60-$80 and spend plenty in concessions

The NBA is also much bigger and the Knicks name holds alot of weight regardless of the product on the floor. People want to see Carmelo vs Lebron, KD, Steph Curry etc. Its not the biggest problem, but prices do affect attendance

The Knicks benefit from corporate patronage and ticket price immune individuals as well as a huge influx of foreign fans who want to see NBA players in action. Not the case for SJU.

We also don't exactly have the most passionate student fans in the world.

Those that religiously go to the games are great and should be applauded. The problem is (as we all are aware) that there isn't more of them.

Not the worst idea I've heard. Something that one would hope would be seriously entertained. That said, don't know how much pricing flexibilty we have at The Garden. Someone needs to pay for the billion $ renovation.

I'lll be there with my wife, niece and nephew. Think we will have to introduce the fans to the players today.

After the Xavier performance, I won't spend another dime on this team unless they win today and at Marquette.

I would imagine there are others that feel the same. So, factor that into today's attendance. I say under 5k for today's game.

NYC is not a college sports mecca, or at least hasn’t been since the days of the old old Garden and college bb tripleheaders.

There was a time in this country and in this City when college bb was way bigger than professional bb, those days are long since gone.

I am 59+ one, and in my memory we have only captivated this City during the Mullin years. Those other years when we’ve been good, maybe we captured the imagination of a few college bb fans, and some of our sleepier, non-athletics-watching, Alum.

I hate to say it when I went to school '71-75 and '75-78, none of my classmates seemed at all interested in our teams, and we were pretty good back then. I went to games with neighborhood friends from other NYC colleges not St. Johns’ classmates.

Now as an older Alum, it seems the same, the buddies I know who follow the team are college bb fans, or bb fans, but not necessarily St. Johns’ alums. There are a few who follow the team, but so many don’t, for a school with so many thousands and thousands of Alums in the metro NYC area, we should have a much bigger fan base.

In NYC you compete with so much else that is going on, we are a blip on the radar screen, unfortunately.

Did the students wake up yet? What a disgraceful showing, the ones who were there were good but man that was pathetic. On the plus side, they opened the upper deck today.

I was at the game today and was a little surprised that the ESPB box score has the attendance at 10,670. There must have been a lot of empty chairs masquerading as fans. I can't believe that there were more than 5,000 fans in attendance, and I can't believe they were counting tickets sold. It must have been a typo. I have to say thought, that the building was in shock as a 20 point lead in the second half was whittled down to 4 late in the game. Give credit to the student section for getting the crowd into it late in the game.

I think there were many more fans today b/c the school had a halftime ceremony to honor the recent SJU hall of fame inductees. Many friends and families of those came. There was a group of about 35 people not far from us all cheering a former soccer player who was honored today.

There was absolutely close to 10K...there were fans in lower bowl end zones and 2nd tier center...

No offense, but you need better glasses or were heavily intoxicated. There was nowhere close to 10k. Yes, there were a few people in end zones and second tier but huge amounts of empty seats through almost every section. I was near center court on first level where the largest percentage of people sit and there were rows of missing people and many gaps. The student section was almost empty.

You may be right...many season ticket holder seats were empty but there absolutely were way more than 5K...On an unrelated note, stuff your comments about needing better glasses or being heavily intoxicated

For the record, at one point in the second half Marv Albert commented on what a good crowd was in attendance.

I didn't think the crowd was bad. around 10k seems about right.

I'm sorry but I'm going to have to disagree with anyone who thinks we'd be better off doing games at Carnesseca because I'd take even 4k at the garden over 5 or 6k at carnesseca every single time

I agree and we cant fit 10K at Carnesecca
