Asst coach discussion
Zendon was always a nice guy. Never sharpest tool in the wood shed, and I know that back to his HS days. I think we can do plenty better and not denigrating in any way. Just think we need some real heavyweights on staff.
Will always remember in 1994 Sewanaka was playing Garden City in the Nassau County semifinals and Zendon got into a little trouble the night before the game and was unable to play.

His High School game was not going to translate because his HS coach let him play PG and he would just come up and chuck 3's most of the time.

I'm a graduate of Great Neck North High School.

At the time I was going there (96-00), Zendon Hamilton had the school record for most points in a game by an opposing player (I think it was somewhere around 60 points). Don't know if that still stands.

His high school scoring numbers were inflamed, mostly due to the fact that he didn't have a very good team around him (I mean, he did by LI public school standards, but it was not a great, great high school team).

I'd be fine with Cleveland, Borman, and St. Jean. That would give Anderson a staff of someone he's familiar with, someone who is familiar with the existing roster (and the school politics), and a recruiter with local ties.

Whatever LJ does, he does. It would probably be foolish for him to sit a year to make a lateral move, but you can make / not make hires based on him.

I am going to try to resist the temptation to pick one or more of the two dozen reasons to LOL at the "Zendon for Assistant" concept.

I admit I'm a little surprised we only have one assistant coach on board so far. But I'm going to be be patient and I have faith in CMA. I have little doubt he 's working around the clock and has a very large to-do list.

It’s a big move for an AC to pack up and move from Arkansas to the Big Apple both culturally and more important economically! I suspect it will take some time to fill his staff!!

We might find out this weekend when another coach is on the road wearing SJU gear but like TJ hasn't been announced yet.

Can’t just hire anybody on your staff. CMA while trying to feel out candidates for positions is also feeling the guys out. Will be 2 guys with East Coast, NY ties.

Is there any chance Hsu is in play for a spot on Anderson's staff or has that ship sailed?

I am not the PC police, but i'd hope the mods take one sentence out that you wrote. Commenting on intellect is really not nice. Comments like that about Ewing over his college career were incendiary. I think you know better.

The great Joe J. used to watch him play in HS and played with him in the park. Joe J. was actually a really solid ballplayer who held his own at OLV on Sunday nights against the likes of former SJU and other college players such as Lamantia, Cluess, Bruns, Hayden, etc. I remember him saying that Zendon would bring the ball up (he was probably his team's best ballhandler) and also shoot from the outside. In a county league where the opposing team's center was often 6ft 2, he should likely have been playing in the CHSAA instead, but even then at his height would have had to compete nationally on the AAU circuit to refine his game.

If true I'm afraid that will also mean bye bye to Figueroa.

They actually weren't even good by LI public school standards. And it was worse then than it is now. He never even made it out of Nassau playoffs to face the Suffolk champ. A team back then with a McDonald's All-American would have made it upstate if they had anyone else of note.

I think the assistants end up being TJ Cleveland, Andy Borman, and someone's name who hadn't been brought up yet, that's probably been a head coach somewhere before or is a veteran assistant coach with ties in the NY area.

I think that's why we haven't heard any news other than TJ being added. Borman can't join until after June from what I was reading. And I'm sure CMA is in the process of interviewing for that last spot. That could take a couple of weeks to find the right guy.

Once they officially announce TJ and the other guy, that's when we'll start hearing some names and visits being set-up. For those that aren't too familar with CMA's recruiting style, they are very secretive, you usually don't know something is going down until right before it goes down. I can't tell you how many times as a Hog fan, we'd be wondering what's going on then, out of the blue we see a report that a kid is taking a visit the next day or read a report that a kid has named us in his top 3 and making a decision soon, and nobody had any idea they were even recruiting that kid.

Totally agree, Garden City beat them a few times. Garden City had a player by name of Mastaglio who went on to Princeton and a few football guys who were 6'5.

Pete Lamentia is a great guy!!!!!!!

I'm fine with passing on Hsu. Seems pretty obvious he and Western Kentucky are dirty. Have to assume nearly every high major D1 program is dirty in one way or another, but with Hsu it's way too blatant.

If LJ follows him there, that'd make zero sense. Even if WKU pays him a lot of money it wouldn't be worth it to sit out a year to play for a mediocre team in an even worse conference. Might as well go pro instead. If he walks because of Hsu then so be it.

I admit I.m a bit antsy about filling out the Staff and the roster, but I'm confident we're in good hands with Iron Mike, his Staff-to-be, and his recruiting strategy.
Wonder if Rasheen Davis, Tom Pecora are in the mix? Mike Rice...lol?!!? Nah fuhgeddaboud that one., not to be revisited.

There is no way LJ would make the trip to Kentucky if Hsu was coming. Would have liked him, but agree w Paultz., think the ship has sailed. Think it will be Cleveland, Borman and the third is anyone’s guess.

I know nothing, but I'm guessing LJ is gone and not to WKU, but maybe, ironically, to Arkansas..with Hsu.
