Asst coach discussion

He is a Duke grad and married to Coach K’s daughter.
If I'm not mistaken, I think his mother is Coach K's wife's sister. Had trouble just typing that out, ha.
So Borman . . . married his cousin?

I just read that SJU is looking to hire Andy Borman as ass't coach in July. I never heard of Andy but read that he is connected to an AAU team who have a number of players that SJU is recruiting.
This is the most sensible statement I have read about SJU in four years.
It’s more than that. He is a Duke grad and married to Coach K’s daughter. He helps run the NY Rens but is also qualified for the asst role.
Why in July?
Committed to finishing out the AAU season.
And staying close to a lot of top potential recruits in the process. Makes sense for both sides.

This is not the first time we've experienced this on the board. Although the first time around, someone forgot to tell us that Rice wasn't really happening.

Yes we had this discussion last year. LOL

If Mike plans to bring in Mel Watkins and TJ Cleveland, how does that impact Hsu and/or Borman?
Would TJC be the DOBO?

I didn’t’ hear this topic addressed at the press conference (assistant coaches). I get specifics (who/when) could not be answered but what about is St. John’s committed to providing the resources necessary? What about potential structure of staff? Timeline to get in place? Maybe I missed it?

I believe Mike Anderson will construct the best staff possible and cover both x & o s and recruiting - and - our AD will insure he gets the resources necessary - until proven otherwise, this is the only path that makes sense.
I bow to those on this board who are better connected than I, but again I trust Coach K and therefore the fruit of his tree Mike Cragg who likely had K’s blessing to be here in the first place.
I also believe we will - sooner than later - start to hear good news on the recruiting
“ battlefront “ -
We shall see
All the best:)

Mike Anderson deserves to hire who he feels he’s comfortable with and should do so. That said I think he’s a smart enough guy to know that hiring a great recruiter or two in the northeast is worth it’s weight in gold. I expect Anderson will probably hire Melvin Watkins as his Associate HC and maybe bring TJ Cleveland too. I expect we will grab at least 1 if not 2 power northeast guys like Borman, Hsu, Jay David etc. Either way, I am going to go out on a limb and guess it will be a far cry from our last assistant staff in terms of versatility with respect to both coach and recruiting as well as depth.

Fingers crossed for Hsu. Queens boy is tireless recruiter

Amen! Anderson can coach rings around Mullin or any other coach they offered the job. Plus, Watkins and Cleveland make GSJ and Richmond look like stuffed mannequins. They both recruit, Cleveland works with the guards and Watkins works with the bigs. Bring in Hsu and/or Borman is a HUGE upgrade over the last staff of do-nothings along with that traitor Matt Whatever.

Good luck coach Anderson!

I see you're hitting the bottle early this morning haha

Thanks for the smile to start the day

:-D If you knew my baby mama you'd understand why I'm sipping back on grandpas cough syrup already. Gonna be a long weekend with her family.

I believe Watkins and Cleveland will come along and gobble up two spots, and sense the other spot goes to Hsu.

Does anyone believe Borman or Jay David would accept a DOBO role?

Kareem Reid would like to join staff per Zags. He said he would take a water boy position if need be.

There has been some talk that Cleveland might be the DOBO
I would be very happy with Watkins, Borman and Hsu as the assistant coaches

I wish Kareem joined us 25 years ago! Anyone know how many hires Coach A can make? I guess we are going to have to wait to see.

That sure works for me. What a breath of fresh air it would be to have the whole coaching staff recruiting!

3 assistants. They can recruit
Unlimited others. They can't recruit

If Watkins and Cleveland come they would be asst. coaches that would leave a choice between Borman or Hsu, I think Borman would get the edge? Unless if Borman is ok with DOBO and it doesn’t hurt us with the Ren players. I can’t see Cleveland would come in as DOBO, isn’t he talked about as a national recruiter?
