Maybe it's Phyllis or Pauline.

It’s Paul not Phil. Plus, Paul Pressey was a helluva forward for the Bucks back in the day. Clutch scorer and distributor. Phil is his 27 year old son so I seriously doubt it’s him.
without having to go back all the pages, who is signed as assistant coaches?
So far, the only official hire is TJ Cleveland as Associate HC
All the rest is conjecture right now

T J CLEVELAND has been called "One of the BEST Assistant Coaches/RECRUITERS in DIV. I Basketball" by several publications/writers during his time at ARKANSAS. That's BIG Plus.

Love seeing MA and TJ out there hustling but does anyone know why we still only have 1 assistant? Aren't we supposed to have another guy recruiting as well, and if so is the reason it's taking a while because he's waiting for Borman? I think Paultz said he was feeling out NYC area guys to see who is the best fit, so maybe that's why. Just curious.

Word is he has spoken to a lot of folks and still doing his homework. I think he will get it right.

Seems like a very calculated guy which is good. Let's hope we finally have a staff that can seriously develop players. I want to see major leaps from freshman year to senior year like most other successful programs. If you can develop talent well, you don't necessarily have to get the 5 star kids or even the 4 star kids constantly. We need good character kids who are all business and totally committed. Team chemistry and player development would be like stumbling upon a giant cold water fountain in the desert.

Coach Anderson appears to be taking his time with this decision which is very understandable. Whatever happens at St Johns will define his legacy as a Coach. It will also have have significant impact on St Johns basketball going forward. For all of those wondering why he has not named his assistants, I would advise you to be patient. One or two weekends during the Spring is not going to destroy our program.

All of us when making career or hiring decisions take our time and give careful consideration to our options. Why should we expect anything less from him. Have heard that he has interviewed and consulted with multiple people. Coach Anderson has been on the job less than two weeks and "we" want him to name assistants that meet "our" timeline, lmao.

Let's let Coach Anderson do his job. There is a reason why he is the Coach and we ain't.

I learned the hard way:

One of the most common mistakes executives make it to hire too quickly and fire too slowly.
SJU for a very long time has been a recurring example of that management axiom.

In terms of conference wins and losses, next season is a lost cause.
Let's appreciate if he uses these next six months to: establish the foundation of a new culture of team accountability and unified purpose, hires competent staff committed to him and the players' development, and builds personal metro area high school and AAU relationships, in addition to any the staff may bring.
Significant progress in those areas will not impact next season much. All of them are critical building blocks for success in year 3 and beyond.

I asked new St. John's coach Mike Anderson about a timeline to hire other two assistants, and said there wasn't one. Could happen this week or next week. He's interviewed a handful of candidates. Would like at least one assistant with local ties, if not two. #sjubb

I wouldn't count them out next season, Anderson has never had a losing season, his teams no matter who has been out there are always very competitive. In 15-16 he had a shorthanded team with the best returning player that averaged 7 PPG and missed the entire first semester, and they ended up going 16-16, 9-9 in conference and that team lost several close games that could have went either way, we thought all the way until the last couple of weeks they would sneak into the tournament, and they just ran out of gas, they really only had 8 guys that could play that year and those core guys went on to win 26 games the next season and made the tournament.

I'm willing to put this on the record, if both LJ and Heron return, CMA will make the tournament his first year, I don't care who else is on the team, those guys are good enough where if CMA just has decent role players around them he'll make the tournament. I've never seen his teams do bad with a veteran back court. If it's just Heron, and LJ leaves I'd have to see who's brought in to make a prediction.

Trust me this roster isn't as bad as it seems, you guys have some talent with Heron, LJ, Steere, Williams, and Wright. These guys are 4-star+ players, then you have a 16 PPG transfer coming in in Caraher. CMA has been vocal in saying this team won 21 games last year and he plans to build on that, he doesn't just say stuff, he wouldn't say that if he didn't think they could do well in year one. If LJ stays and he adds at least 1 quality grad transfer, it's going to be a fun year.

Well, Making Plays, you're making a believer outta me. Lol.
This Board tends to view things 'half empty' because of our history of the past 2, mostly lousy, decades.
But i agree with you about next season IF LJ stays, we get a solid & seasoned PG, and valid reinforcements from the JUCO/Grad T markets. We need more height to include 1 more solid big plus some complementary pieces for depth at SG, SF & PF.
Here's hoping.

I'm not convinced that we can do anything with a 5'9" FROSH PG no matter how tough he is. Mugsy Bogues was a different time. Now everyone is a shooter even if they are 7'+ And forget about 7 footers. We've had the most trouble with guys 6'6-9" who shot over our small ball. Even if he was 6'3" tough to be a starting PG as a Frosh. So I'd say if LJ returns and Heron returns then we have two awesome pieces. If we get two bigs and another long guard with some experience then the season is NOT a write off and we could go as far as those two can take us. I'm convinced that LJ could have done more last season but deferred a lot. He was also off-book it seemed in that he actually followed his shot and went for offensive rebounds. I think he could be fully unleashed under new style if he's willing to put in that kind of effort. He obviously loves playing full court and does it as good as anyone.

That said, go in handicapped with a 5'9 starting PG with zero experience and coupled with no muscle inside (where we are at right now) and yes the season is lost IMO.

Agree that 5'9" starting point guards are a rarity on good teams these days but there is one recent example that comes to mind. Tyler Ulis, who was 5'10" (tops) started for 2 years for Kentucky before going pro and I believe was SEC Player of the year in 2015-2016 season. Having said that, he was a super talent and I would hope that at least in his freshman year we can use Jonathan as a sparkplug off the bench.

Is LJ on social media? Can we mount a pr campaign to him telling him we want him back? Worth a try?
