Assistant Coaches

I generally do not read JJ but I checked it out last night
Rumor swirling on that board suggesting that the staff will be:

Pecora, Matt A, Grasso and Mitch Redmond

I would be somewhat disappointed should that be the case
In particular, I do not see the benefit of having Pecora
Also, while Grasso is a good recruiter, he is a downgrade from Slice

Thoughts?

Rumors all over the place, but I don't think Pecora is in the mix. Rather than drive myself crazy, I will wait until Mullin reveals his hand. I have concluded that getting Slice is proving to be difficult. We'll see soon enough.

Hope that's not true. Would be very disappointing after the other (positive) rumors.

Agreed, that would not be exciting in a vacuum, let along compared against some of the other candidates that have been discussed already.

I'm with Paultz, will just wait to see what Mullin does.

well if we don't get slice and diallo, people will disappointed and the Mullin Era, starts off with less bang then we expected. think we need to get real here, this is a multi-year build as it was for Lavin. You win some and lose some, I know this obvious to all of you, but you have to trust Mullin in this process.

Lets not let these really high expectations ruin the excitement of what is to happen.

I know that Mullin is having a team meeting today... Hopefully they are having pizza for lunch...be nice to have a slice

@KySportsRadio: Hearing UK Asst Slice Rohrssen is considering joining his friend Chris Mullin at St John's. No decision made yet. Hope he stays...great dude

I think we find out a bunch after todays team meeting.. Including coaches and if sheed is staying... They need to get the ball rolling in whatever direction they plan on going..

I wouldn't be that disappointed in a Pecora hire. He's New York guy through and through. He also took over a Fordham job that was an impossible job to be successful at given the conference they're in and the lack of resources that the school provided him. There have been other coaches who were successful in other places and then went to Fordham and died there. There's a reason for that.

Grasso on the other hand would be disappointing since he obviously would be a huge downgrade from Slice. As far as Mitch Richmond goes, I don't know much about him as far as player development is concerned. Mullin played with him though so I have trust his judgment.

Let's get this done. Fourth brick in the new foundation-Mullin, Matt A., CO, Slice, Sheed, Sampson, Diallo........

While I certainly don't hope this comes true (really want Slice), if Grasso/Pecora/Matt A were the ACs, Mitch would be the DOBO in that case?

I've felt all along that this was only a possibility if Calipari is leaving and will not bring Rorhssen wherever he lands. Calipari always gets his man, so for us to get him would mean that Cal gave his blessing.

I'd honestly be more disappointed if we didn't get Ed Pickney than Slice.

I would think so
You would want Matt A and Grasso to be the primary recruiters
They would have to be assistant coaches to do so
I couldn't imagine Pecora taking a DOBO job
So, that would leave Richmond as the DOBO by default
Having said that, I hope that's not the way we end up
