Assistant Coaches

I wouldn't be that disappointed in a Pecora hire. He's New York guy through and through. He also took over a Fordham job that was an impossible job to be successful at given the conference they're in and the lack of resources that the school provided him. There have been other coaches who were successful in other places and then went to Fordham and died there. There's a reason for that.

Grasso on the other hand would be disappointing since he obviously would be a huge downgrade from Slice. As far as Mitch Richmond goes, I don't know much about him as far as player development is concerned. Mullin played with him though so I have trust his judgment.
While I certainly don't hope this comes true (really want Slice), if Grasso/Pecora/Matt A were the ACs, Mitch would be the DOBO in that case?

I'd honestly be more disappointed if we didn't get Ed Pickney than Slice.
Really? Getting good players is dominant part of a winning program. Having Slice & Matt would be a super tandem. Btw, it appears Ed P is no longer in the mix. All this should be clear shortly.

News on Slice, etc. today? Wonder who is included in etc.?

Paultz, how long is shortly do you think? In your educated opinion

My guess is today or tomorrow we should hear something.

Pecora, Slice, Matt A is my guess. Mitch Richmond as DOBO would be an insane draw. We really need Slice.

That would be a great staff. Hope it happens. Pecora with his HC experience would be a great resource for Mullin to lean on.

Pickney was a pretty good recruiter too and I think he has more to offer as a coach, skills development, game planning, etc. His NBA experience also goes over well with recruits.

Don't get me wrong I'll be very happy if we get Slice. I just was really excited about the possibility of getting Pickney or both.

This would just be awesome.

I think the optimum group of asst.coaches would be:
SLICE
MATT A.
GRASSO/PICKNEY/PECORA
but if it doesn't work out to be exactly that group, all of us will have varying amounts of disappointment but I would still trust Mullin to make the right decisions on who he feels will be the most helpful to him. I know we are all sitting on pins and needles at this point but we have to allow the process to work itself out.

I know that Mullin is having a team meeting today... Hopefully they are having pizza for lunch...be nice to have a slice

John's pizza closed years ago. Best Sicilian slice you could find in Queens

So are Hines, Whitesell and Chiles all released?

Whitesell has not been officially yet.

Maybe I am way off base, but as an outsider looking in, I didn't think that Whitesell or Hines were major contributors to our program

It seemed that Chiles did the heavy lifting in the recruiting department. I always wondered how effective the other assistant coaches were in the Lavin regime

Im trying to find out info about Slice. Instead I am becoming an expert on NY pizza LOL

Whitesell was an assistant to Rick Majerus at St. Louis a few years ago. Majerus said that he was an excellent assistant and particularly good at breaking down game tape and noting improvements that needed to be made. I wouldn't be at all upset if Mullin kept him on.
