Around the Big East

Not Big East but maybe one day - I was watching the first half of Dayton-Alabama on ESPN. Alabama got a breakaway and a black player passed it to a white player. The white player missed the dunk and the black player rebounded it and dunked it. After the next foul the announcer said I guess it is true white man can't jump. A little strange I thought.

Announcer who said that was Jeff Van Gundy.

I've heard announcers make that reference before. No big deal.

Only comment that has made me do a double-take in recent years was when the announcer decided to say during a Gonzaga game that the opponent was employing the hack a Polack defense when talking about Karnowski. And he had Mike Giminski next to him when he said it.

Nova crushes Nebraska, 87-63. Meanwhile Hoyas up 3 points over Maryland with 7:45 still to go. Not easy, but pulling for Georgetown.

Jimmy the Greek was fired for saying blacks lack the buoyancy to swim. Not sure why this is different.

That was Al Campanis, not Jimmy the Greek.

Maryland over Hoyas by 4 after trailing most of the game.

Nova over Nebraska handily.

Hoyas go down to Maryland in a close in College Park. Great game. A win would've been a feather in the BE's cap.

Are you actually offended by someone saying white men can't jump? Did you boycott the movie when it came out as well?

Their trademark.

@JonRothstein: Villanova three primary guards -- Brunson, Arcidiacono, & Booth -- have a combined 26 assists to just five TO's in Cats' first two games.

@UndercoverFriar: There will be a big announcement today from @PCAthletics and @PCBobDriscoll regarding men's basketball. It's a great day in Friartown. #pcbb

Had a fun time at the game. Nebraska is not a good team. They were hot early, got up 23-16. The pavilion was quiet at that point but at the same time the game never seemed in doubt.

Brunson is smooth, had a few drives where he beat his man and instead of going up and finishing he'd kick it out. He has the talent to finish, talking to fans of nova, they want to see him not defer as much. That's something that will come as he gets more comfortable in the college game, he's someone I see exploding in late January/ early Feb and being a beast when it's tournament time.

Arch and Ochefu are solid seniors. But Ochefu is still soft to me. So many times he got offensive boards and could've easily jammed it home but he opts for these reverse layups to avoid contact. He's got to get angry. He was soft against NC State last March and it cost them, and I didn't really see improvement last night.

Phil Boothe was the most improved player I saw. He looks like a whole new player out there. Overall a fun game, nova will be right there again this year. I see them as a 2 seed. Will this be their year we will see.

Also, saw Steve Lavin at the game. I don't know if he was broadcasting, he didn't have a headset on, it looked like he was just taking in the game.

Nova can go undefeated heading into the tourney and I will still have them going down the first weekend.

@JonRothstein: Providence holds off Illinois to win a thriller at the dunk. Friars get a W with Kris Dunn far from his best -- encouraging sign. #pcbb
