Around the Big East

I was thinking about that. I think they drop to 25, maybe a little lower.

It feels like in the end justice will be done in the BE rankings - SJU has played the best, then Creighton. Marquette could land 5th behind UConn and X, I think. Or 4th with X 5th. Either outcome is reasonably representative of the play of those teams.

Shout out to DePaul for beating Providence last night - props to Bensley Joseph for a smart (if douchey) play late although he wasted it by bricking the FTs
If x beats prov and we beat Marquette, X would be the “4” and MQ “5”.

Karabust heating up the last few games too. Uconn is back.

This is going to be a great big east tournament!!!!!
Disliking Karaban is such a wild take...even from you. What do you him to do with their guard play? His overall #s are actually in line with his past #s when you account for increased shots and factor in the poor guard play.

There is always something with that guy.
English is overrated. His best players at George Mason were recruited by his predecessor, and he didn't have a ton of success even at that. Then he jumps to Providence and had a decent year last year, lost his best recruit and this year has been a disaster. Plus he seems like a jerk.

We should save the "what does a 'must win'" argument mean for a boring week in August. But losing all of @TCU/@Cincy/@Georgetown could be the difference between making the tournament and not for X

Does that leave Marquette as a last four in? They may be sweating out selection Sunday, which would be crazy, considering where they started the season.
Marquette is very very safely in. They're still 11-7 in Q1/Q2 games, including 5-6 in Q1. Its mostly bolstered by their great wins at the start of the year: @Maryland, Purdue, Wisconsin.

They could be a very dangerous 6 or 7 seed though.

DK has it right. They are in no danger of last-4 in. X could land there, that might be best-case scenario for them unless they win the BET. I would guess BE seeds could look something like:

SJU - 2/3
Creighton 4/5
Marquette 6/7
UConn 7/8
Xavier 11

The inverse of this is that Marquette is currently 1-4 against the good teams in the conference (SJU, UConn, Creighton). Lose to us at home on Saturday and they will be 1-5.

Think the basic issue for them is that they are a doughnut team, they have a hole in the middle.
Agree, watching last night’s second half, it is clear that M’Q loves going for steals often jumping lanes. The problem is on drives, there is no one manning the middle of consequence to help out/stop penetration. UConn feasted on that.

Karabust has had a rough year. Thats not debateable. Hurley and karaban themselves would tell you that.

He is coming around at the right time for them though.

Hard for me to like any UConn guy, but Karaban is of high character, a team first guy, heady, hard worker, does a lot of little things & never bitches or blames. I’d take him on my team anytime.

Agree, but being a nice kid has nothing to do with he has not met expectations this year and has been a big disappointment.

X is in that precarious spot where any bid stealers could end them. They might be in a situation much like us last year where they may need to beat the 1 seed in the semifinals. which ironically, is us now
It's ridiculous if they don't get in but a team multiple games under .500 in conference does. At some point actual wins need to count over advanced metrics.
