Around the Big East

The one MAJOR difference between the way St. John’s played Yukon opposed to Marquette is St. John’s completely harassed Diarra and the rest of their backcourt. Marquette is playing far too passive.

Xavier’s about to go 13-7 with an OT loss at UConn and an OT loss vs us. Should get in IMO.

What happens with Marquette if they finish with 3 straight losses to UConn, us, and X in BET? How far can they drop?

Good chance we are the only top 6 seed from BE. Although, if someone other than us wins the BET they might move up to a 5 or 6

I'd like Xavier to get in but I think they're are 1-9 in Q1 games. I think they may still have work to do and are on the bubble.

I think unless they tank for here on out, X deserves to get in, and would not be a team others would want to face. But, I could see them facing to the same fate as we, Seton Hall and Providence did last year by getting bumped due to the apparent BE discount.

Right, and they could be subject to the bubble shrinking last year like it did for us. They'll need some help in that regard.

Probably need to win last regular season game and beat UCONN in 4-5 game to be safe.

I was thinking about that. I think they drop to 25, maybe a little lower.

It feels like in the end justice will be done in the BE rankings - SJU has played the best, then Creighton. Marquette could land 5th behind UConn and X, I think. Or 4th with X 5th. Either outcome is reasonably representative of the play of those teams.

Shout out to DePaul for beating Providence last night - props to Bensley Joseph for a smart (if douchey) play late although he wasted it by bricking the FTs

The inverse of this is that Marquette is currently 1-4 against the good teams in the conference (SJU, UConn, Creighton). Lose to us at home on Saturday and they will be 1-5.

Think the basic issue for them is that they are a doughnut team, they have a hole in the middle.
Ben Gold has been a massive bust. Samson Johnson was able to dominate that game too much. He had a career-high 11 rebounds. He had nine total the prior four games.

I think I had said 13 conference wins was the floor to make the tournament. Unfortunately that doesn't look wrong. Really hope next year is stronger top to bottom.
