Around the Big East

Great win by Gtown. Cooley is too good of a coach to not turn that program around. Gtown/st johns rivalry could be big time again very soon. Creighton looks bad w/o their best player who aint coming back this year.

What a game by xavier. I sometimes forget sean miller is one of the best coaches in the country.

Uconn is scary good now that Diarra has stepped up and really solidify the pg position. Solo ball is becoming one of the best players in the conference.

Great night of big east hoops. Even Butler is hanging around.

Marquette is good but their bench other than streaky freshman Parham does not provide much scoring. Between RJ, Zuby & Kadary we should be able to get their starters in some foul trouble when the time comes.
I do think Marquette is the best team in the league, but I do wonder if they had an abnormal advantage this early in the season with their continuity & that they’re closer to their ceiling than other teams (us, UConn, etc)

GT crushes Creighton
Their next game is against Seton Hall on Sunday (albiet in NJ), so a 2-0 start is very possible for them.

However, their next 4 Big East games after that (they have a non-conference game with 0-12 Coppin State on the 28th) are as follows:

Xavier
@Marquette
UCONN
@St. John's

So, while they're better, I expect them to come crashing back to Earth very quickly.

Wouldn't be surprised to see the Hall pick them off at home.

Sha might have a coronary if they have another clunker at home.

Too often they kill momentum and a good game like UConn last night

We won by a ton the other night so I’m not blaming the refs for a loss or anything. But my comment to the person next to me when we waited ten minutes for a flagrant to be handed to Vince was that common sense dictates that if you have to look for a problem for ten minutes it isn’t “flagrant.”

These referees would fail basic grade school English.

These monitor breaks are a pet peeve of mine. It’s bad enough when watching on TV, in person it is insufferable. Also, coaches are clearly asking for reviews in the last two minutes to get a free timeout. Two suggestions - that will never happen.

1. Players have to remain on the floor. If they can huddle up amongst themselves good for them but I see no reason why they should be able to head to the bench and get plays drawn up because there is a review.

2. Start a clock, sixty seconds. If you can’t find a reason to change a call in sixty seconds the call wasn’t that bad. For thirty eight minutes every out of bounds call stands, but all of a sudden in the last two minutes fingernails matter? And as I said on flagrant reviews, if it is really flagrant you will catch it on tape immediately.

Do you have to pay $25 to sit in the student section or do they pay you $25 to do it?

Can’t imagine the psychos that would pay $25 to watch SHU vs DePaul
Attendance for some of their games has been beyond putrid. We get on our fan base, but the Hall v. Hofstra at UBS had literally 500 people in the crowd. Even their ultimate water-carrying scribe Carino had a tweet about it.

I’m old enough to remember when we here were chided for not supporting our team like Hall fans do. Of course, it was only a year ago, and complete nonsense.

These long-ass reviews, give players unaccounted for breathers, coaches extra times-out, and frustrate fans and viewers. No excuse for how long they took last night to determine if the ball hit the rim or not. It didn't matter but it also happened in our DeP game the other night, about a flagrant foul or not, I thought they got that wrong BTW.

Diarra is an extremely limited player. I love Karaban, but when you see Liam McNasty next to him, it just shows there are levels to this. McNasty has it all.

Ball could explode…really well interesting player. Ross will explode next year and be a huge depth piece for them this year. He’d start almost anywhere else.
