Around the Big East

According to Evanmiya.com UConn is the #1 team in the country if you take out the Bahamas.
If my grandma had wheels she'd be a trolley car.

I mean, that may literally be the dumbest take ever. Did he take out the worst 3 losses (or one or two) for EVERYONE and then run his numbers? Or did we only take out the worst 3 losses for UConn but everyone else we judge by complete records?

Moronic.

Big East in February will be fascinating to watch. It turns out that Marquette/UConn/us all don't play each other until then. Battle of BE supremacy will be decided then.
Agree, formula seems to hold serve at home and beat teams on road you are better than like PC and go into “gauntlet” period in Feb. in good shape.

Villanova may have turned the corner.

I think they can still be an NCAA team even with the bad early losses. I don't think they are on the level of Marquette, SJU or UCONN but they could be the team just below. Especially with Creighton losing Pop, Xavier losing 2 key players and Providence struggling.

Would be nice to stack up as many wins as possible between now and Feb, feel like the “St. John’s special” since I’ve been a fan is start slow in big east play, get hot later, and try to claw our way onto the bubble.

The slate is set up for us to not have to do that this year. Keep winning and establish ourselves… then take care of business in Feb/March

Regarding the big east - Nova @ Creighton is one game this weekend I will have close eyes on. Nova has been better recently, 5 Ws in a row, they grabbed a solid resume win against Cincinnati, but because of how they started, they kinda need this one Saturday to put themselves back in the tournament conversation. It’s probably a good time to get Creighton too as they just lost a starter to injury and haven’t fully adjusted yet. Dixon has been sensational.

I caught the 2nd half of their game last night, Tyler Perkins (sophomore who transferred after a solid frosh season at UPenn) has a ton of potential it seems he’s starting to reach it. Have a lot of nova fans I talk to in my personal life and they’re (cautiously) starting to rally around this squad, despite obvious coaching concerns. Saturday feels like a swing game for them and their season

Yeah watching them play not sure that effort it their biggest issue.

I think lack of talent is a far bigger issue for them.
I agree but the only way he's going to have that team remotely competitive is if all of them give everything they've got, and I would think this is his motivational tool/weapon to try to get that out of them. Even then it will be tough for them to be remotely competitive given the talent level there.

But that goes without saying, every coach wants maximum effort out of their players.

I just think in this case it is coach speak. I don't think he actually thinks his players are not giving max effort I think for the most part he knows they just stink. He obviously does not want to say that nor give the impression that there is little hope for this season (even thought deep down he probably knows he is staring at a historically bad season at SHU).

So you give angry interviews and talk about "playing people who want to win..." What else is there, honesty? If he was honest he would say, "We are very limited in terms of offensive talent, I am trying my best to come up with combos that can work but it is hard when you have limited talent...."

Three interesting Big East games tonight:
Creighton at Georgetown 6:30 on CBSSN
Xavier at UCONN 7 pm on FS1
Butler at Marquette 9 pm on FS1

Also of interest:
Memphis at UVA 7 pm on ESPN2
Michigan at undefeated Oklahoma 9 pm on ESPN2

Of course I bet Creighton today... And I can't even watch the game, at a high School chorus concert 😠

Just watching UCONN vs x. UCONN is good. X is no pushover. Breakneck basketball. Fast paced. To bypass them in March Madness is madness.
