Around the Big East

Smart money is 3 bid Big East again. 😥
Been saying that for a while. As soon as we started to slip up in our OOC games there was no way the committee is going to give us more than that. The teams in our conference had their chance to prove it and they didn’t.

I think still premature to say this although the out of conference was not a big help overall for the conference. Last year having geortown and depaul the way they were were the biggest detriments for the conference. Hopefully their metrics are significantly better than last year and we beat them all 4 times.

The issue now though is, Marquette & UConn are the only possibilities of marquee wins for teams. We'll probably be the third possibility for teams, assuming we play up to our potential.

Absent of beating the top three, how will a team like Creighton or Xavier really raise their profile? It's mediocrity against mediocrity.

Formula seems to be top 2- 3 regular season slot, get to BE T final beating UConn, get a good Dance seed and win at least two games there.

Too much to ask after wandering in desert for 25 years w/o a Dance win God? Moses having any clout w him?

I agree, and hope we rack up the wins heading into February, so we can feel confident about our chances if that month doesn't live up to expectations.

While I totally agree with what you're saying, aside from the SEC and Big 12, do teams in other conferences really have more opportunities?

That's basically the point. Big Ten is the other. Lunardi has 11 schools in. KenPom has 7 schools in the top 22, and another four in the top 50.

Those three schools present their bubble team members a lot of opportunity throughout the conference schedule. Unfortunately, it also means they'll probably have over 80% of the at-large bids collectively. And that's assuming no upsets in conference tournaments in the A10, WCC, etc!

I know that’s the appearance and I’m not sold on Marquette to be honest as a top top echelon type though they are good.

Not sure how games shake out but still feel we can be a 4-5 bid league without the bottom being so terrible.

So we've basically arrived at the point where the 3 power conferences should break away and start their own tournament, as has been much rumored they'd like to do. I'm at least happy to see the ACC is an embarrassment.

I hope I'm wrong but this could be the first year where we see the B10/B12/SEC really dominate the at-larges this year.

If Creighton and X didn't suffer injuries/were as disappointing, the Big East would proportionately be right there with them. Just a lot of awful luck with those two.

I think he's referring to how poorly the 18 schools are doing this season so far.
Then "embarrassing" is a statement to make in March. They don't give out any prizes in December. Let's not forget how just last year the conference was getting trashed on here all season then in the end everybody had to eat their words.
