Around the Big East

Clingan only played 13 minutes a game for that first championship team, it's not all about him. But Newton and Hawkins or Spencer are head and shoulders above any pair of guards they can throw out there this year.
To pull that off the bench behind Sanago is just ridiculous. And they were untouchable when he was a soph. I also wrote that it may have been him and Newton that put them over the top.

I think the 2 and 3 spots are largely plug and play. They had 3 NBA draft picks at the wings (including Hawkins) the year before Clingan and Newton and didn’t do much.

Something to keep an eye on if UConn doesn’t crack the top 15 the next few seasons. Or maybe they do and it’d nothing.

I fully expect UConn to be a top 25 team again this year, let alone crack top 10's in future years. But I do think the "dominating the Big East by default" expectation should be done. Hurley -- to his full credit -- had a historic run but that is an unsustainable expectation.

I agree. Last year UConn was the most dominant college team I’ve ever witnessed. When Hurley turned down the Lakers and started signing guys like McNeeley and Mananey, I thought there was no stopping him getting another 3-5 titles and a top 10 team this year.

I’m going to relish in the possibility he may have just caught lightning in a bottle — even though I fully expect them to be a Sweet 16 team this year.

Holloway can obviously coach, but is better served with a program with more resources.
Think Sha is a good young coach. Still think he turns around the season.

That said, “resources” aren’t the reason you lose to Fordham, Hofstra and double digits to 0-8 Monmouth at home. Something is going on there. They have some talented kids despite the actual or perceived lack of resources.

Could see this game wirhout Kalkbrenner being a huge help for Creighton over the long run. Their other guys had to step up without him as a safety which has been their problem so far this year

I’m not sure where you see the talent though

King has shown legitimate promise in the past. Just not able to play on the court with Kalk and obviously not many minutes to go around with Kalk rarely on the bench.

Because like 16 months ago, Dual, Middleton, the big kid from Wisconsin were all top 50-100 level recruits out of prep. Dual and Middleton were top 50 kids. They aren’t far removed from all the “evaluators” pegging them as such. Their two freshman are solid recruits. Some of the other transfers have this pedigree or weere successful at the mid major level.

Not talking about King specifically more so the whole team just standing around watching Kalkbrenner and having no recourse when the opponent is able to prevent him from getting the ball or from getting good looks
