Around the Big East

Another view worth thinking about from Coach Walsh

He's partially right. It should be called. It usually is called when screening for the ballhandler, but you often get away with it off the ball. Its one of the main reasons why I love offensive sets with a lot of off-ball screen action. You get away with a lot off the ball. I also love making kids have to fight through 10+ screens (mainly off ball) in 30 seconds. Odds are that they will screw one of them up and then you have someone wide open.

The videos on this thread give a very different perspective than the replays on the TV broadcast. I'm switching from "brutal call" to "great call". I ref 3 sports and, as all refs know, basketball is the hardest sport to officiate by far. I watch a ton of games and see it's impossible for even these top refs to get these calls right.

Does anyone think one of the blue bloods will eventually try to lure Hurley away from UConn with a massive contract, or is he a lifer at UConn at this point?

My guess is he stays until he tires of the grind. He is an East Coast guy and master of his own destiny there unlike at Kentuckys of the world with boosters all over you. Can’t see him going to pros where inmates run the asylum

If UCONN wins on Monday they will have 6 national championships tying UNC for third place. Only UCLA (11) and Kentucky (8) have more.

No need for Hurley to go anywhere.
After this season he can easily ask the AD to tear up his contract and to write a new one. No reason he should not be the highest paid coach in the BE by a long shot.

To put Carino tv viewers number in perspective, it was dwarfed by the 14.2 million who watched Iowa-Conn. There are some cooking shows that draw more viewers than the NIT. How did the school make out? Last time I looked the NIT paid invites $ 4000 per game. I know SH is desperate for money. But really? This counts as a slam dunk? Carino has a personal dislike for Pitino. That’s fine. But Carino should at least be honest and consistent. He recently attacked Pitino for turning down NIT. But has never said a word about all the other well known and respected coaches who did the same thing. NC did it last year as well. But Carino had no problem with them. It’s reporting like this that gives the media its bad image.

I’m not sure if anyone is following Clark Madness in the women’s game, but man, all the good will she attracted to the game might just have been undone by the refs taking the game out of the players hand with a nonsense offensive foul call at the end.
If you look , without bias , you will see that Edwards was clearly moving and actually threw a shoulder into Marshall .
That’s a foul under any circumstance . First minute of Game or last second .
Edwards plays a rough game physically , like Cardosa on SCarolina . If you want to be accurate about it , both Cardosa and Edwards would have trouble staying in the game , even if they allowed 10 fouls . They get away with a lot of crap .

Edwards mauled Stulzeke all night and never got called .

As for Muhl on UCONN ,many are saying what a great job she did on Clark . Sure , if you consider holding , grabbing , pushing , bumping great defense . She also could have been called for 10 fouls .

I don’t see Iowa winning today . Unless Clark scores 40 . SCarolina just too talented a team .

Just more talking head nonsense and why I hate what they have done to sports. The players should decide games and everyone who “knows ball” knows it. There are bad calls all through any game which is why you swallow the whistle in that circumstance unless it is an absolute public mugging.
Just two jerks changing the narrative after the fact, a horrible call and there is no way around it.
Could not disagree more . It was the right call and it was more than just a moving screen . Edwards threw her shoulder into Marshall as well .
You could even stake a belief that it was a flagrant foul
Edwards was mauling people all night and actually committed 10 fouls but , many no calls .

The Ref who made the call was right there on the sidelines and had a perfect look . He didn’t hesitate 1 second , it was that flagrant
There was also no involvement by the other 2 Refs consulting on the call . They would have gotten together if they saw it differently .
In fact , down the stretch I thought UCONN got the better of the calls as they made their run .
Muhl was basically fouling Clark on every play . Holding , grabbing , pushing , slapping . She could easily have fouled out with all her infractions .

I would say , given their number of NCAA Championships over the last 40 years or so, that UCONN is already a blue blood itself .
Nova pretty close too .

Here’s a question . Is Gonzaga a blue blood ? How about Creighton ? Marquette ?

I would not characterize creighton or Marquette as anything close to blue bloods. Gonzaga is a tougher call. Generally I think of blue bloods as large schools with deep pockets, sustained success and a history of commitment to their basketball program.

Has Creighton ever made the final four? Marquette enjoyed obvious success under Al Maguire and has certainly had some very good teams since joining the Big East. But I wouldn’t characterize them as an elite program.

Of course you ignore my point entirely. Another person who could use a reading course. I never said it wasn’t a foul. I said it shouldn’t have been called, just like Singleton’s was a technical that never should have been called.

You forgot one thing, the most important thing-WINNING CHAMPIONSHIPS!

Curious as to what sports you officiate. I officiate football, women's basketball, field hockey and fastpitch softball on LI.
