Around the Big East

I’ll give you this about UCONN’s schedule. It shows how harmful it is to schedule the Mike Anderson-level cupcakes. It’s mind boggling that they’re rated 300+, but also have beaten Texas, Indiana and North Carolina, while losing to Kansas.
I agree, and I also think it’s actually accurate too. Those low major teams in the 250+ range are generally really bad. There should be zero reward for beating them. Whereas the mid-majors like Dayton are dangerous teams that can beat a top 25 team especially on a neutral court so teams should get rewarded for playing those types of games even if they don’t obviously pop on the schedule like playing a Kansas or Purdue.

Only team in the league with a better record and SOS than sju is Marquette. UConn and providence have just feasted on easy schedules so far. I think some folks underrate how difficult games against those teams ranked 25-150 can be especially neutral court and away.

No reason we can't finish third, yes it's a stretch but seeing Creighton get blown out and knowing we will finish ahead of Nova puts us in the mix. Now watch as we finish seventh...

The Blue Demons were run off the floor in the second half by a good Iowa State team on Friday. Tony Stubblefield’s squad is 1-6 and there aren’t many opportunities for wins coming up. Athletic director DeWayne Peevy is in a tough spot, having already addressed the slow start. The next time he makes any public comments on the situation will likely be when a change is made. I reached out to a few sources over the weekend and was told nothing is expected to happen in the immediate future, despite this ominous tweet from CoachingChanges. A handful of coaches are already working the back channels to line themselves up for the job, should it open. This will be a situation to monitor in the coming weeks.

Very important Creighton blowout win at Nebraska (who were 7-0). A game Creighton lost last year (at home) and were only favored by 4.5 today. The Big East really needed this one after the last couple days.

Edit: final now - Creighton 89 - Nebraska 60. Largest win in rivalry history.

I agree Vegasman, if things break perfect for us we could possibly squeak out a third place finish. For that to happen though, we need Luis back when conference play starts. He has a skill set that this team needs. If he’s out for any length of time above and beyond what’s being talked about now I think a third place finish is extremely unlikely. With our luck and past 20+ year history as program, we probably won’t see Luis for the rest of the season.

First of at least 3 games for the Wilcher family against Creighton. Simeon’s older brother CJ scored 4 points off the bench for the Huskers.

CJ no stranger to SJU as he played against us as a member of Xavier a couple seasons ago and last year in the Gavitt games at Carnesecca.

PC, Johnnies, Xavier, Butler & Nova seems like a scramble. I like us for 4th or 5th, 3rd is a stretch to me but who knows.

Providence looked real good in outlasting Rhode Island. PC, also with a new coach (unproven in a P5 conf) and overhauled roster, has gelled real well pretty quickly.

It's game on Tuesday at a rejuvenated Oklahoma will be real interesting.

Couldn’t agree more. Ironically George Mason, where he used to coach, is also off to a very nice start.

Maybe this post should be on the Old Friends thread you know Porter Moser who was almost universally panned on this board save for a few of us.
