Around the Big East

Watched Creighton and Nebraska, Creighton with five new starters looked good. Again, good outside shooting, and a few good transfers and some height. McDemott can coach too.

Lavin, FWIW, says no way should they be 8th in BE as predicted, he has them definitely in the top 5. Good enough, as long as they don't displace us.

Of the teams I’ve seen, not much has changed my opinion.  Creighton we can absolutely beat.   They don’t have the same level of  studs of past years just yet.  Marquette wasn’t great either.  Seton hall has looked good as has UConn,  but UConn hasn’t had any competition yet.  We have the capability to beat all these teams. Guys like Nate Watson are a known quantity.

I'll say it again.  You can hate Willard all you want.  But with each passing year, it is getting harder and harder to claim he's not a good coach.

I'd just like to point out, in the 10 years he's been at the Hall, he has one NCAA win, and it was an opening round win. Literally nobody on this board would be happy with that type of track record if he was our coach.

Would be fair to point out they lost Powell’s senior year tournament to COVID. Plus he has a BET championship. Our fans are unruly sure, but I’m sure all of them wild trade our last ten years with theirs.

Of course they'd trade our last 10 years for theirs, but who would want our last 10 years? I'm just pointing out the expectations placed on our program by our fans while praising other Big East programs who haven't achieved much more. My point stands, our fans would not be satisfied with that track record that Williard has put up.

Don’t doubt your point and nothing about college bball fans would surprise me. Just think saying he only has 1 tourney win in ten years is downplaying his Hall tenure.

I get it. I guess my posts are more of a commentary on how I feel our fans hold our program to one standard, but then praise other Big East programs who they in reality would not accept the results if they occured here. Willard would have long been run out of town here. Last year all of the praise was for how great of a job Ewing had one. Really?

Hall has also had a ton more success in the BE T winning at least one if not 2 (don't recall for sure) while we haven't sniffed a semi final appearance in what this century?

Seton hall's schedule is ridiculous.  They just beat Michigan and they still play Ohio State, Rutgers, Iona and texas.
Man our schedule is a joke.  HAHAHAHAHA

That’s because Willard and the AD at Seton Hall fully understand the value of having a very strong strength of schedule. The NCAA Committee will put a team in with a strong strength of schedule and less of record than a team with a great record and a very weak strength of schedule. They reward teams for scheduling aggressively. That’s what concerns me about our team this season. We need to win one of these games against Indiana or Kansas. If not we will need a top three finish in the Big East or a Big East Tournament Championship to make the tournament. We can finish 4th and Seton Hall 5th , and hypothetically, if they only take 4 Big East teams, there’s no doubt they will take Seton Hall over us based on strength of schedule.

I would love for the BE to finally win a Gavitt Games series.  Tonight we just need Xavier or DePaul to win to do so.  I have little confidence in DePaul against Rutgers, so it is up to Xavier to win the state of Ohio battle.

Jim Calhoun HC of Saint Joseph of West Hartford will step down effective immediately.

As of right now looks like staff is going to get bailed out this year for poor OOC scheduling.  Big East is looking really good, possibly a 6-7 bid league this year.  Right now 5 BE teams in KenPom's top 50 and 10 BE teams in the top 100, Lunardi has 6 BE team's projected in the field as of last night.   Going to be plenty of opportunities in conference play to get quality wins, unlike last year where there was really only 3-4 other teams that would be considered a quality win.

Least discombobulated Depaul team I've seen in years. Coaching does make a difference. Entertaining game!

So technically, we are officially in 9th place in the big east only in front of Butler and Gtown.  Just great.
If you're going to go by standings now, Villanova is tied for last as well because they have 1 loss too.  After watching all the games, I'm still pretty confident this team is among the top 5 teams in the conference.  St. John's had the 2nd toughest game in the Gavitt Games and almost pulled it off.  Only game tougher would be @Michigan and Seton Hall barely pulled that off.   Marquette got lucky and got Illinois at home without their All-American and best player out due to suspension and Xavier got Ohio State at home. If you go by the AP Poll, Indiana is the 27th rank team in the nation right now.

seton Hall fans were dying to get him out of there Shows you how stupid fans can be!

BE is going to be a dogfight. Other then Nova , doesn’t  have the marquee names like the ACC , so it gets a little underrated, but every team is good.
