Around the Big East 18/19

The final installment of "Paint Touches" Top 50 Players in the Big East is linked below.... Two of our own are in the top 10, as most knew.

I was off by one -- I posted that I expected to see two of our guys in top 7. Someone like Goodman probably would have made them 11 and 13.
How reputable is this site if they can't even spell Chris Mullin's name right?

If the Red Storm are going to escape a last place finish it will be on the backs of Figueora and Heron as well as because Coach Anderson has developed the other players in ways Coach Mullen couldn’t.

Cut them some slack, there were many posters on this site who didn’t spell it right when he first got the job here and they are supposed to be St. John’s fans!

After PC lost out on 4 star player, Earl Timberlake, today;

How quickly recruiting success can be forgotten. No doubt a less than stellar 2019 recruiting cycle so far for Ed Cooley, but he's gotten a few guys over the years to come to Providence that never would have seriously considered Friartown #pcbb #gofria

It's looking very likely that Cooley and staff took too big of a home run cut for 2019 recruits to date, but the talent on the current roster (and projected next couple of seasons) is wildly better than when they last struggled with the 2015 class #pcbb #gofriars

Some friends who are fans of the Hall thought they were getting this kid. They went after him hard based on the connects of one of their assistants.

Goodman
Marquette’s Steve Wojciechowski told me that Jayce Johnson (knee) will not play in the season opener and and is "week to week.” Utah transfer is a major key for this year’s team with the loss of the Hauser Brothers.

Seton Hall

The difference a good basketball team makes to a university
Like the AD of one of the many schools I attended used to say: "Nobody knows Notre Dame because of their Math department."

Big East games for Tuesday, November 5th.

Including BPI percentage of victory, to give you an idea of how the game "should" go. For non-conference games, I'll put the percentage next to the Big East team. Once we get into conference games, it will be next to the favored team.

6:30 PM - Wagner at Seton Hall (95%) - FS1
7:00 PM - Jacksonville at Xavier (93.5%) - FS2
7:00 PM - Sacred Heart at Providence (89.4%) - YES
8:00 PM - Loyola Md. at Marquette (92.2%) - FCS Atlantic
8:30 PM - Army at Villanova (96.6%) - FS1
9:00 PM - Alcorn State at Depaul (93.9%) - FS2
9:00 PM - Kennesaw State at Creighton (96.5%) - YES

Glad the Hall are playing tonight and on TV. I'll look forward to watching them and get an idea of how their new pieces fit. They look like they could be a really good team this year if they can get a consistent second/third scorer. Enjoyed reading the positive article on Hall in the Post today that Paultzman posted. Always good to see strong teams in BE especially after last year's disappointing season.

Kevin Willard suspended for that game tonight, though I don't think it should make too much of a difference.

It's also a chance to scout one of our non-conference opponents, although I think they'll be in over their heads tonight.

I like SHU but 4:15 into the game it is pretty much unwatchable. The Hall has already shot 10 free throws with 8 fouls called on Wagner. Comical..........

Good to see the refs are in mid season form from last year

Saw several calls against Hall with guys literally just standing there. Real bad calls. Hall showing glimpses of being a potentially very good team but also making tons of mistakes lots of turnovers. This Wagner team is scrappy. The size on Hall is shocking...I didn't realize they had that much. They have several trees out there. The FSU kid is 7'2 255. Wagner getting some lucky shots I have no idea how they're making. Hall looks like they're playing too fast at times...if they let things develop more they have a massive size advantage and can eat them up inside.

Powell, along with Obiagu & Mamu down low are going to be tough for a lot of teams to deal with this year. Hall is very deep. I expect them to be a top 15 team and would be surprised if they aren't BE regular season champs.

Their size is absurd. They have like 3 or 4 guys 6'10+

You got it Mike. Six guys on their roster listed at 6'9" or taller, two of them over 7 feet tall. Plus a few pretty good guards/wings in Powell, Cale, Rhoden & Nelson. I'd say pretty strong pressure on Willard to take this team to the Sweet Sixteen...

I just want to see a St. John's team in my lifetime with a monster like the FSU transfer with another decent big like Mush and some good guards. That's how you make a deep run in the tourney. Seems like sometimes we have decent bigs but no guards and other times we have no bigs but decent guards. We need balance.
