Around the Big East '17-18

In any event, I think Ewing has put a nice staff together and would be surprised if they will don’t get back on track in a few years.

That is what I gave him credit for once his staff was finally in place. I thought he brought in a sound group.

Villanova's Omari Spellman will enter the NBA Draft, but won't hire an agent.

Not directed at you but don't understand the fascination of the designation of a lottery pick. All the lottery is for is to determine the draft order of non playoff teams. Difference between 14 and 15 no difference than any other 1 position difference. Not to mention lottery pick had more significance when there was only 7 teams in the lottery. That said I have no idea where he would be picked but a big with an NBA body, shooting range out to 3 and a good rebounder should be pretty coveted.

contracts are bigger and the teams invest time and effort trying to get position in those picks they also have trade value.

When you look at something (someone) as a major investment you take it more seriously and put more effort into it. A guy who was lottery and has a poor first year will likely get a couple more seasons to prove himself. A late 1st rounder and beyond not proving himself is quickly old news and the BBD is coming up again in June.

Lottery is mostly an ego inflater, which is the last thing most of these kids need. Just being a first rounder and getting the guaranteed contract is what matters most. I'd rather slip the the end of the round and win some championships in my early years. If you are a stud, you'll get paid on the back end anyway.

True, but the difference between 14 and 28 over the course of a 3 year rookie contract is $3.5 million, or about 75% of contract value.

Key words, if you are a stud. Review some NBA drafts and look how few all stars there are any given year. I went back to 2013, five years ago, Giannis, Oladipo and Gobert. That's the entire list of guys in the first round of that particular draft who have either played in an all star game or made a post season all NBA team 2014, one player, 2012 4 players. I guarantee you there are more folks out of the league than on those lists from each year's first round. I would suggest maximizing the value of your rookie contract and setting a higher starting point for future negotiations is pretty damn valuable. JMVHO

Getting the feeling that Seton Hall is New York's team.

I'm getting the feeling you are being a tad dramatic. No one cares about Seton Hall.
