Around College Basketball

Another coach who timed his announcement to make sure they hired the assistant he wanted to get the job. Worked out OK for Wisconsin when they got "stuck" with Greg Gard. Not so much for U. Va thus far. Feel as though I am forgetting one or two others where this happened.
Craig Esherick replacing John Thompson at Georgetown.

Started with Dean Smith, who retired in October of 1997 (though he always said he was going to do it before a season).

Jim Calhoun at UCONN for Kevin Ollie? There were other circumstances there, though.

Just once, I'd love to see a school say no to something like this, partially because, until we hear otherwise, I believe that Rick might very well do something like this in a few years. I'm guessing it would be Massiello, should that happen, and I think we can do better.

But is that really out of a deep-seated dislike of nepotism as a matter of principle or ...
;) 😇;)
Good question. I’m not sure. I’m still pissed off at him because in my first year of junior baseball for benching me after a home run because he wanted to send a point to all the parents to never question him benching their kids because he benched me first. It literally scarred me for life and I’m not joking 😀

He’s the Anti Pearl

It seems to me like NIL deals would make transferring this late harder. (Local ones anyway. I guess nationwide companies wouldn't care as much.) Pay them back to get out of contracts with local car dealerships, etc.? Or is everything at that level a pay as you go handshake-type thing?

I will preface this by saying I don't think it happens, BUT if it did, 37-3 would be our floor with Pettiford. If I'm a billionaire, I'm even overpaying to make this happen.

Pettiford instantly makes us national title favorites.

Probably more realistically, we were in on that juco guy Emeka Oporum who ended up there. I wonder if adding another project big man would be in the cards instead

We absolutely don’t need another project big man. We just reload
