Around College Basketball

Great article.

The rules say what they say. The knowable consequence is that on revenue sharing the P4 teams will only have a fraction of the money the BE (and maybe the A-10 and AAC and a couple of other conferences) will have to spend on basketball, because they are going to spend most of their money on football.

The unknowable consequence is what the P4 (and to a lesser extent due to lesser motivation the Big East and other non-football conferences) will be able to make up in the theoretically transformed NIL market. Or what will go on under the table that had been put on the table the last couple of years.

Add into the mix agents and players who refuse to believe that their financial market just cratered and are sure that somehow, some way, the numbers will wind up being what they were.

Also add into the mix that the under the table money being brought into the light and put on the table gives the NCAA's NIL committee a roadmap to where it comes from if it goes back under the table.

Interesting times...

Excellent post. I suspect the NCAA monitoring arm will be as inept as ever and “bag payments” will thrive. At least the “student athlete” schtick in college hoops and football will be in moth balls.

How does this work? Are players going to get revenue sharing and NIL or is it one and the same now?

The other issue is it is a matter of short time before the P4 bigfoots this model. They aren't going to live with it.

Rutgers is finally in process of hiring a Basketball GM, not exactly proficient tea leaf readers.

Then be ready for the current players set to graduate after 4 years to appeal it to get to stick around. Sellers, Mitchell, Zuby..
It would not be surprising if this group of seniors is included as long as they have are “true” seniors (meaning this year is their fourth year) like the three you mentioned above.
