Way too early pre-season top 25 by Borzello.

He has Arkansas no. 1 also has 3 BE teams Creighton, Villanova and Xavier with Creighton at #9.

Seems like most in the early predictions have Nova, Creighton, Xavier, and UConn in their top 4 in the BE. I think it's wide open after that. I think if Johnnies can add a couple impact players like Curberlo and one more guy, with Posh on the roster and with them returning a lot of players they could be preseason projected anywhere from 5th-7th.

I wish Lavin well.
That team his first year here was magical. If Kennedy didn’t get hurt, they would have made noise in the tournament.
They had started playing better again (after a late season slump) and their defense would have been hard to prepare for in a condensed setting.
It would have changed the entire landscape of the program.

The guy has a great gig going, loved by all, why would he want to lose it? Oh wait, I forgot......money.
I wonder how much USD would pay. Small school but in a rising conference. The guy they fired wasn't even making $500K . How much would Lavin have been making at Fox?

PS in a couple years the Toreros will be the third best D1 team in San Diego! Go Tritons! ;)

First site I came across told me he's 5'7" and makes $56,786. Something tells me the numbers are off.

Well look he still has to prove himself as a coach but if people thought Duke's recruiting was going to fall off now that K is retiring and Scheyer taking over guess again.

Scheyer has gotten 10 commitments for 2022 and 2023 combined. 7 of the 10 are consensus 5 star kids.

And they are likely to get an 8th tomorrow below.

Always liked Lav, hell of a nice guy, even if he's not the greatest in-game coach.

I think people forget that he wasn't hired to be the head coach of UCLA, he took over for Harrick after he got fired literally as the '96-'97 season was starting. He was able to keep that job because he did such a good job with that team (Elite 8) and was able to capitalize on the recruiting bump that brought that '95 title to Westwood. However, after his first couple of years, despite his ability to bring in All America recruits, the natives were restless. His teams had a tendency to play to the level of its competition, which resulted in a lot of big wins over highly ranked teams, but also a lot of bad losses to teams that had no business beating such a talented roster. I do recall near the end of his time at UCLA, the administration was playing footsy with Rick Pitino before he ended up taking the Louisville job.

The 2011 team was poised to make a big run before the Kennedy injury. Adding insult to injury, they dropped us probably 3 seeds (with DJ we likely would have been a 3) and then shipped us out west to play an underseeded Gonzaga team, who was potentially the worst match-up of any team we might have seen in the entire tournament. They kicked our butts from beginning to end and there was nothing we could do with their combination of size and athleticism.

I do think if not for the cancer, Lavin's time here would have been better for everyone involved and may still be ongoing. I wish him the best in San Diego.

This is what happens when you spend 40 something years building a "program". The foundation is rock solid, so Duke is going to be "Duke" until they're not.

Not a surprise but the Athletic is reporting that John Scheyer has promoted Amile Jefferson from Director of Player Development to Assistant Coach to replace Nolan Smith who went to Louisville to become their Associate Head Coach. While it was speculated that Mike Schrange who had recently resigned as the Head Coach at Elon would be an assistant on Scheyer's staff, his position is Special Assistant to the Head Coach. Scheyer still has one position to fill, the position Scheyer held until Coach K's retirement and his official elevation to Head Coach.

He should bring in the recently fired Pat Baldwin. Then his 5-star son can follow him there, since I don't think Duke has enough of them yet.

Vin Baker Jr., who's father played in the NBA was also on that team.
