Around College Basketball

In my area, Naples

Called up my buddy, who was the Florida Gulf Coast AD up to two weeks ago, to congratulate him on the win. Wanted to get over there for a game this year, but when I looked at their Home schedule didn't see anything attractive there, just their conference games. Must have missed the FAU game altogether. Think FGC was 3 & 8 or so going into the game. He told me his top 2 players are injured. They played 5 majors (Indiana, Pitt, Cinn, Minn) teams on the road and had FAU and NC Wilmington home. St Bonnies was suppose to come in but they pulled out. Anyway asked him about the attendance for the game and it was a sellout. Last sellout was against Southern Cal in 20021 for the anniversary of their March Madness run (beat Georgetown) when the USC coach was the FGC coach. Mentioned they got Princeton's center through the portal last year so that led me to ask about NIL. Said small, to stay competitive with other MIDS. Changes in the Administration in the last year made things "untenable". Will have to see where he lands next.

This stinks:

Providence's Bryce Hopkins tears ACL, out for season

Hopkins, a 6-foot-7 junior, has been No. 23 Providence's best player since transferring to the Friars from Kentucky in the spring of 2022. He averaged 15.8 points and 8.5 rebounds per game last season, earning first-team All-Big East accolades and leading Providence to the NCAA tournament.

Brutal.

This really opens the door for us, but it’s not the way you want to see it happen.
