Around College Basketball

It was a take off on Jerry Tarkanian's famous line pointing out the inconsistency of NCAA punishment for rule violations. When it was reported that $10,000 had fallen out of a Fedx envelope headed to a Kentucky recruit's father, Tarkanian remarked:

“The NCAA is so mad at Kentucky it will probably slap another two years probation on Cleveland State.”
Yes , I recalled that infamous line and it’s why I used it in my post . You mentioned Kentucky as the offending School that got Cleveland State with the penalties . I may be wrong but I thought it was Ohio State but , no matter the pony was the double standard of the NCAA .

This story isn’t what anyone wants for Huggy or WVU . Huggy has an outstanding legacy as a HOF Coach . Pity that it’s spinning out of control .
Of course, but Huggins is responsible for tarnishing his outstanding coaching career.

It appears as if he is trying to get his job back instead of getting help for his addiction. Priorities are backwards.

I love his coaching, but he needed to willingly and humbly take everything he deserved here, very publicly state he'd be entering rehab, and emerge clean and fresh and do some studio work guesting everywhere that would have him on. And then try to rewrite the final public perception of him by coaching at another school for a couple years before packing it in if he still has the coaching bug.

He had a great run there, but he screwed up too much at then end to even dream that he'd be allowed to continue.

Addiction to Alcohol or Drugs is not a easy Disease to overcome . Some people get it and turn their life around . Others try mightily and still can’t overcome it .

And ,some just are content with their addiction and continue on a path that leads to a 1 Way ticket to losing everything in life and often their life too .

The first Step to recovery is the First Step , for those who know what I’m talking about . After that ? Step 2 ……

Huggins seems to be following the wrong advice here, or, as is the case any times, ignoring the right advice. Unfortunately you can always find a lawyer that will take ANY case. We have too many lawyers and not enough work for them.

Huggy's daughter started a social media campaign after he stepped down belittling and besmirching the WVU Board and Administration and now he is following in her foot steps. This is a sad situation.

Huggins should follow LJSA's advice and his legacy can possibly be helped. He is 69 or 70 years old and if he becomes sober he still has time to save his life and forget about trying to get his WVU job back.

He is a HoF coach; quite a record and n my mind he gets that honor just for turning Pittsnagle into a real player. :p

WVU must not bend to any pressure here. Huggins is facing a serious charge of DUI. Not sure what some people don’t get. He could have run over and killed someone. He’s lucky he didn’t. The person or kid he didn’t run over is even luckier.

A Coach in a college basketball setting becomes the “surrogate” parent. They offer scholarships to these 17, 18 or 19 year old kids. They essentially are telling the kids parents that they have the kids interests at heart and are charged with “looking after” them. So what’s WVU pitch to recruits? Come to school here our guy has a drinking problem he won’t address but trust him? Who in their right mind would send their kid there?

Mind you, if he took the right steps acknowledged the problem and took his punishment (yes illegal actions have consequences) maybe he could Coach again somewhere. Perhaps at WVU if he took these steps. Unfortunately he’s not doing any of that. Screw him.

Huggins didn't coach Pittsnogle. John Beilein was his coach.
