Around College Basketball

I find it very hard to believe UConn would leave for basketball-only. Gonzaga is a A+ move for them, big missed opportunity for the Big East.

UConn is as well. The Big 12 will need to get over itself, because they have five NCs in hoops (sucks but it's true).

And let's be honest, they will be inferior to the B!G and SEC in football, and it won't even be close.

Slightly off topic, but it needs to be posted. It may be cringe but it's part of the new recruiting landscape.

Recruits love attention and social media followings. All the big boys in CFB are hyping these kids up with photo shoots, edits, videos, etc. It's just a matter of time before we see basketball recruits getting similar treatment.

I read a little bit about NIL and facility upgrades on the forum - which is great, because it is essential. But we shouldn't under estimate the impact a solid social media presence and strong marketing can do to build this brand!

Take a look at this video of an AA recruit the U is hosting this weekend;

UConn football has no value to a 12-, 14-, or even 16-team conference. That's why they were left out in the cold the last time around. But as conferences grow to 24 teams with the intent of killing one or two others, UConn football increases in value. Does Yormark assume state-backed UConn football will improve if thrown to the Big 12 wolves? No clue, but if he does . . . he's wrong. UConn football did, does, and always will suck. But the conference gets a nouveau bleu blood in basketball.

I think ultimate Big 12 plan is to bring in all the old Big East/now ACC teams in a mega conference that spans the country.

if you go to Fairfield University's website and look at their athletic department playing fields, it's amazing what they have available for their teams.
Their new Mahoney Arena, which is only a year old, seats 3,500 comfortably, with amenities, at a cost of $51 million, privately funded. Very impressive set-up for a MAAC school.

Arizona wouldn't need any nudging to leave the Pac 12 for the Big 12. The Pac 12 is a dying conference and every school still in it would leave for the Big 12 or Big 10 in a second if offered.
With all this happening out West , etc , how will Bill Walton be able to continue his spin that the PAC 12 is the “ League of Champions ? “
