Around College Basketball

But that's probably mostly due to NIL from Ohio State boosters. There's no chance he'd recruit that well here.
Everyone keeps speculating Texas, but I think Cal would take the Ohio St. job in a heartbeat if he leaves Kentucky and Holtmann is thanked for his service.

Feel great for NW, kind of game that makes college hoops enjoyable, don’t screw it up further NCAA

I watched a good feature on Zach Edey a few days ago growing up in Toronto and playing hockey and baseball before switching to Bball. He was a top 300 recruit and Matt Painter wasn’t sure if he was worth a ship at Purdue. What an amazing improvement this kid has undertaken.
Anyone think we can get a fraction of that improvement from Keita ?
A St. John’s fan can dream can’t he 🙏🙏

He recruited well before NIL. He won before NIL.

Also he won at Butler and was hired at OSU BEFORE NIL.

Right. But my point is you can't expect the exact recruiting results he's getting there to translate to a Big East bottom feeder. He may have recruited well previously in the Big East but this is a whole new playing field.

Zag is reporting that Mike Brey, while still leaving ND, said he is not retiring.

New number one ranked team in both the AP and Coaches poll is Alabama. I recall couple of years ago when I posted that Nate Oates was killing it on the recruiting trail I was mocked by a couple of posters not that it bothered me but I always find it ironic whenever a St. John’s fan mocks other schools.

Hiring Mike Brey would be way too similar to hiring Mike A from my view. An older, high major coach who has had success in the past but recently appears to be running out of steam...
Matt Langel with associate head coach Mike Brey sounds good to me. I kid but really not sure what type of head coaching job would be there for Brey (besides us potentially)

So he can't compete with Providence or SHU because of NIL? Huh? Those schools have no big NIL deals.

So why hire Thad Matta back if you are always at a NIL disadvanatage?

who would do that? I recall a lot of people on here dreaming about hiring Oats at one point. Surprised anyone thought he wouldn't work out

Hopefully wasn't me. I'm pretty sure I always recognized he had the "it" factor, but I guess you never know what someone is capable of posting. 😁
