Around College Basketball 2019/20 Season

The Recruiting Dead Period, which means no on or off campus recruiting, was just extended to May 31st, the NCAA announced.

Have talked to a number of college coaches that are either attempting to give potential prospects FaceTime tours of their facilities or are working to create a short video reel of their basketball facilities.

With the elimination of the spring Evaluation Period and no spring visits, the recruiting process for the 2021 class is going to be interesting. Players will fly under radar, and you would think that the recruiting process will slow down a little.

honestly, I think CMA did a better coaching job then him. Dayton had way more talent then we did and and a nba superstar on the roster.

Oh lordy

He recruited a 2-3 star player and TURNED him into an NBA player.

Are you saying if Obi Toppin would have accepted the offer from Georgetwon, Texan A&M, Rhode Island etc, he would not be an NBA player?

Impossible to say, but generally when a coach recruits a lightly recruited 2 or 3 star player and the kid turns into a first round draft pick, the coach gets a lot of credit for both smart recruiting and good coaching (as CMA will over time with Champ). Aside from which no one picked Dayton to be anywhere close to a top 5 team; again coach justifiably gets a lot of credit there. Suggesting that CMA deserved coach of the year more than the Dayton coach is just silly imho and I love CMA.

I can't predict the unknown. I wish I could because there would be a lot of more important things I would focus on.

But law of averages says if Obi went to a big time program he wouldn't have played or been recruited over very quickly.

CMA did a great job but can we stop heaping over the top praise like he did a better job than Anthony Grant did? Dayton was picked 3rd in the A-10 pre-season and finished as a Top 5 team. There is no question at all he's coach of the year and its not even close compared to CMA.

If you are gong to use that logic, then Doug McDermott should have won it. His team was predicted 6th in the big east and won the conference over real tams like nova and seton hall, not davidson and vcu.

Regardless if you actually broke down in the actual "coaching" aspect, grant was going to win it. Dayton in the top 5 and no one needs to do any research to pick coach of year.

If CMA coached dayton in that conference, I see the same results.

If grant coached this st johns team, i dont see the same results.

Fordham poised to announce major changes within athletic department

Fordham University is expected to announce major changes within its athletic department possibly as early as Friday afternoon, sources said.

Athletic director David Roach and head men’s’ basketball coach Jeff Neubauer are both expected to be replaced, with the Roach development happening first. Roach, 70, could end up retiring. The head coaching change may take some time, sources said.

Neubauer, 49, is 60-94 in five seasons at the A-10 school, including a 9-22 mark last season in which the Rams went 2-16 in league play.

Among the potential candidates to replace Neubauer are Colgate coach Matt Langel, Pitt associate head coach Tim O’Toole, Villanova assistant Kyle Neptune, Bryant head coach Jared Grasso, former St. John’s and UCLA head coach Steve Lavin and St. Benedict’s Prep head coach and Fordham alum Mark Taylor.

Zags went to his go to move re replacement coaching possibilities, throwing shit against the wall

I would think that Langel would be an attractive option. He's done well at Colgate
I can't imagine Fordham paying Lavin more than he's making as a commentator
FWIW, I don't think Fordham is a great job

Other than the fact that Fordham is in a good conference, the job isn’t very attractive.

Apparently there are a number of 2020 recruits out there who have not achieved minimum test scores with none scheduled in coming weeks due to Virus. I wonder how NCAA will address that.

Don't know how that will apply to athletics/NCAA rules, but in general, many colleges admissions offices are making college entrance exam (ACT/SAT) "test optional" for this year and some up to three years. Likely an experiment to keep that forever. The whole U of Califoria system just announced that too. Still, optional doesn't mean recommended or preferred. Current year, it's more understandable for HS seniors and juniors (if the tests will be available in summer. SAT for March & May cancelled. June still on as on now.). Hot topic in my house as my daughter is a junior.
