Why don’t we hold off on speculating or making jokes about deaths in people’s families until we know more. I think Mullin may have a close family member with a serious illness.
There is no speculation. Mullin had a 95 year old aunt who was a nun pass away March 30th. I don't think anyone made any jokes about it unlike some cretins here who criticized Steve Lavin for taking too much time off when we played Syracuse at the Dome when his dad passed away or made cancer jokes when he has complications. You see, even when we have known more, it didn't stop some fans from being asses.
I wouldn't wish a serious illness on anyone, let alone a family member, so don't even inject such a thing in this discussion. I think some people are asking legitimate questions about Mullin and Richmond and nothing has been publicized regarding their respective reasons for being absent. With Lavin it was up front and some of you accused him of playing the sympathy card. With Richmond and Mullin it is the radio silence that feeds the rumors. Thus fans make jokes. If you or anyone else has solid information without invading the coaches privacies then say so. Both coaches have had issues with their children so that could be a reason for the silence but either could have just stated they are tending to family business and much of this B.S. could be avoided.
My post came off as an attack on you. For that I apologize. That is not my style. I didn’t like when people went after Lavin during his cancer battle and for taking time off when his father died. Those things, along with marital issues imo, should be off limits. I don’t like to discuss people’s medical issues. My point is, if there is a hint that that may be the reason he is not out recruiting, let’s give him the benefit of the doubt until we find out otherwise, In this case, it could be a legitimate reason.
I didn't take your post personally in the least.
As for Chris and the April recruiting grind it is common knowledge that he has been absent from these events in the past and the present absence is not an anomaly. Regardless of what has been put forward here both Chris and Mitch are fine as are their families. I happened to have known that his aunt had passed and that the entire Mullin clan including Mully's wife and children came together to celebrate her life as a wonderful aunt and devoted nun.
Mullin has been around and seen but is not actively involved in the April recruiting showcases. It has frustrated a few people but he is who he is. Folks here should be more concerned with the disconnect by Mitch Richmond with almost all aspects of coaching except during the season when he works on individual skills. That, my friends, is a complete waste of a full time AC position. Certainly a Kimani Young would have been a better investment but a young hungrier coach got him.
Ironically Kimani was on a short list we were told months ago privately in case Mitch decided to move on
