Anderson - is he really the guy ?

We all know based on the last couple years anderson's teams take time to gel and being we only  had 3 returning players doesn't change this for me.  Although I am not thrilled with how we have played except for a few moments this year, we have the record most thought through all games up to this point.  If we all had patience (I know so difficult for us with this team so long) I am willing to bet that most to all will be happy with a very good big east record and making the dance that way.  So I say let the team evolve as this has been the path so far.  I know its tough when you see an iowa state for instance handle all their new players and schedule well, but we have seen this story before with anderson and with posh and penny and wusu hopefully they can hold the fort down earlier than later when the newer guys mesh in better with the system.

Thats my take

This refrain about CMA’s teams taking a long time to gel annoys me to no end.

but its what has happened in this small sample size since hes been here with a large new cast of characters in his system

Do players new to the CMA defensive system have to learn the basics before they learn about taking away passing lanes?  Ball reversing to other side for corner threes are doing great damage.

I'm pretty sure that the last 2
seasons, we finished the season 3-4, and with some bad losses That's hardly "finishing strong". So much for the argument  that we start slow and finish strong. While I do expect this team to improve, I just don't see enough talent here to get us in to the tournament. And if we don't dance this year, and with Champ gone,  there may not be a buzz around  this team for a very long time. Wish I could be more optimist, just not feeling it.

IDRAFT wishing you many good years ahead! Keep coming to the games it will keep you young.

If that was meant for me I never said we always finish strong. I just said we take time to gel for whatever reason so far with him as coach.   As for not finishig strong maybe that was because we weren’t  as deep as a team playing this way and we wore out at the end?   I don’t know.  Just hope these guys can figure it out and we have better depth at the end

That definitely was not meant for you Eric.

Or we screwed ourselves by forcing Joe Lapchick to retire while Lew A. was on the hook. /media/kunena/emoticons/ermm.png

The life if a St. John’s fan. We could have the winning power ball numbers only to realize our winning numbers were on the wrong day

That decision to kick Lapchick out is the reason I doubt that the board of trustees will ever  make a decision that benefits the men’s basketball program . Perhaps the dumbest decision a colleges hierarchy ever made.

The IDraft proposition is wrong.  Like a political party and campaign, you have to count on your base and build from there.  You can;t start at zero.  The StJ base is us older guys who DID see the team with buzz and success.  That is what keeps the team from having NO fans.  But, IDraft is right you have to try to entice the younger crowd to join in with the base and build a bigger fanbase.  It is the older guys that have stuck with the program since it was successful that provide a base from which to "build back better".

I'm not suggesting you bar older fans from attending. I'm one of them! I am suggesting more and more of them that are not attending are never going to in appreciable numbers and so forget them (the ones not interested) and move on.
As many have suggested, winning cures attendance problems.

But, until we do we have to go after the low hanging fruit = the on campus students - through any and all means. I don’t have the answer to “how” but just make it a social event and hope that the allegiance to the team grows.

In parallel, go after the young elementary and high school kids especially those in proximity to the campus. Family night at CA!

If you win they shall come.
Discussions to fire the coach at the beginning of his 3rd season are pre-mature.  We are just cycling through coaches and rebuilds every 5 years.  Lots of Bball left to play this season and we have lost to the teams we were expected to lose to.

Just think about how many students show up for midnight madness. Do any of those kids actually come to games? or are they just coming for the musical guest that night?

To get more fans to attend, SJU needs to improve the team’s marketing, ie. start the Red Storm report when the season starts (on broadcast channels), advertise the games, have a broadcast radio presence, etc.  In addition to upgrading CA.
Just win and they will come.

Seems pretty straightforward to me too Ken.

Question for Panther, since he knows a lot of guys recruited.

How much are kids impacted when recruited by schools that pack the house vs those who struggle to sell half of an msg or have half the place filled with visiting fans.

Serious question

I view Anderson as a placeholder for whoever is coming in next.

He blew his big opportunity this year by losing the entire team from last year and replacing them with a bunch of scrubs. It's a damn shame that they're wasting Julian and Posh's last season together like this.

His recruiting has been Norm level awful. You can't win in a major conference by recruiting undervalued 2 and 3 star players and low end transfers. For every Julian you unearth there's 100s of Sears, Sorianos, Pinzons, Vince Coles etc. And his in game coaching has always been bad. We still don't run and offense and we we've been bad defensively which is supposed to be his calling card.

Not only that he was so concerned with keeping his fugazzi winning streak alive (that others around CBB laugh at because of how out of his league he is compared to the others on that list) that he gave us a cupcake schedule with few chances for big wins which we already blew.

I just feel in a holding pattern now just waiting for the inevitable. Hopefully the 5th coach is a charm since Jarvis left and the last time we were relevant.

Beast , you saw us on TV vs Indiana.if you were a recruit would you prefer to play on our home court or theirs, packed , upgraded arena w screaming , enthusiastic  all Indiana fans?
