All Things World Cup

Always amazes me how incompetent people like Mark Geiger have a job and are often praised

Didn’t think that was a PEN at all but rooting for England so I’ll take it. Columbia are a bunch of lunatic babies. Hope they get demolished in the 2nd half.

I actually don't think he's doing that bad a job. And I do think that penalty kick call was the correct one. He's taking a lot of crap from both the English and Colombians and so I think he tried regaining control by calling those fouls and giving out yellow cards.

But right now, in the second extra time, England looks deflated. I think Colombia will win this one, which IMHO, sets up a less interesting game against Sweden. But we shall see.

Glad England won. Despite their meltdown near the end of the game, I thought they deserved to win.

But a horrible horrible way for any team to lose a game, especially a World Cup game. Don't like determining the outcome on PKs.
My picks in (brackets):

Uruguay-Portugal (Portugal)
France-Argentina (France)
Brazil-Mexico (Brazil)
Belgium-Japan (Belgium)
Spain-Russia (Spain)
Croatia-Denmark (Croatia)
Sweden-Switzerland (Swiss)
Colombia-England (Colombia)

I could see any one of these going the other way though... :)
QF's:
Uruguay-France (France)
Brazil-Belgium (Belgium, please for the love of humanity)
Russia-Croatia (Croatia)
Sweden-England (England, unfortunately...)

Agree with all.
Hope you're correct.

Uruguay but only if Cavanni plays, I'm not a Suarez fan, he's Neymar light., but I'm not a fan of the Frenchies even more.

Belgium I'd root for anyone playing against Neymar plus Prince Harry's on Belgium. This should be the finals.

Croatia the fans will be against them but I think they'll be more creative than Spain and carve the Ruskies up.

Sweden Listening to all the English announcers and analysts is getting old. And England has recent history.

No analytical reason as I am only a very casual soccer fan (and not even sure if it is possible), but I think a France England final would be a lot of fun.

What was the reaction when Drier went up to take the last penalty shot over Vardy?

It's possible, but it wouldn't be any fun for me.;)

No one was speaking. You could hear a pin drop in a bar of 500 people.

Not that this is WC specific, but is anybody buying the Ronaldo to Juve rumors? If true that would trigger some massive transfer spending by the big boys.

The old lady would immediately become one of the top 5 club teams in the world if that happens.

I wasn't even talking about the penalty though the defender did ride him like Secretariat. But Barrios head butted Henderson. Yes Henderson flopped but a head butt is a red no matter how you slice it.

I think there was universal agreement it was a penalty but the way I saw it, Kane initiated the contact and then began to fall down. At that point the Colombian defender was riding him to the ground.

Btw I noticed a report that while the Columbians were whining like babies in protest of the Pen one of their players was behind the huddle digging his boot into the spot and scuffed it entirely. They are dirty AF I have little respect for anyone on that team.

Kane definitely initiated contact. And I'm an Arsenal fan so no love for Kane. But its never the first one who initiates its always the retaliation as you know.

Yeah there are videos of #17 digging a hole at the spot.

This comes with a ton of bias but for my money Sokratis is the best centreback in the world. Good bit of business from the Gunners on that one.
