All Realignment Talk Here

According to ESPN and BE spokesperson, schools will leave June 30, 2015. They would avoid exit fees by doing this.http://www.torchonline.com/sports/2012/12/15/presidents-announce-departure-from-conference/
Now just sit back and collect the exit fees of each FB school that leaves in the next 2 1/2 years.

We've put enough into the BE, the least we can get after all the crap we've put up with recently is getting our share of the exit fees from the turncoats who ruined it for everyone.

No way.

We agree.

I don't think it would happen but I could see it as a possibility. If you add a west coast team you have to add a travel partner and those two are close enough that you could play a Friday/Sunday with little travel in between, unlike if Gonzaga is involved. If you stop at those three to get to 10, Creighton makes a sense as a West Division foe between the West Coast and Marquette and DePaul.

Pardon my ignorance...when the need for a travel partner is referenced, does that mean that the teams actually travel together to save $?

Travel partners are about clusters to make scheduling easier. It doesn't make sense to fly all the way out to Gonzaga and then turn around and come right back. But if you pair up schools, you can hit one then another and make the trip easier to deal with.

For instance, you can have someone play at Providence, then SJU. And then next weekend have Seton Hall and Nova go to them. And the following weekend they go to Marquette and DePaul. And then the next weekend Xavier and Butler go to them.

Mike Brey quoted a saying ND would have left with the other Catholic schools if they had not already committed to the ACC.

Also interesting reason why Marquette and DePaul were added to the conf. yrs. ago

http://espn.go.com/blog/collegebasketballnation/tag/_/name/katz-3-point-shot

It's a shame that ND ended up with the ACC. They would have been perfect to keep.

When the ACC implodes, nd will end up being another of the losers along with cincy, Yukon, wake, etc.
The new BE would be their wet dream , which is why they should never be invited back.

I understand your rage or acrimony towards those schools. That being said, I hope the C7 will try to leave emotions and grudges out of this as they are trying to ensure the long term success of our new conference. If we would be lucky enough that the ACC would implode and somehow ND became free again to move, I would take them back into our conference.
As much as people hate UCONN and Syracuse. We should probably play them every year. Good rivalries, geography, MSG game and will help our strength of schedule.

Uconn, Syracuse and ND will bend over to play St. John's in the Garden after the dust settles. Their fans and alums have been vocal about it. Pretty sure Lavin would endorse it for SOS.
Pretty sure Pitino would want a NYC game every year with SJ as long as he is there. It will be like the old Big East without the marriage ring to drag SJ down.

They dont need st johns to get into the Garden. Wake up. They fill the place and the Garden can match them up with another school Maybe a school from a major conference

I hate hate hate the schools that betrayed the Big East as much as any redmen fan! I would love for them to flounder. But I know that Syracuse and Notre Dame want St. John's on their schedule every year for their alumni base. Uconn now desperately needs St. John's on their schedule post Big East because without Jim Calhoun, they will be a different animal AND they are in basketball limbo as of today.

As to your comment above "They dont need st johns to get into the Garden. Wake up. They fill the place and the Garden can match them up with another school Maybe a school from a major conference", have no fear......I am wide awake.

The "new" Uconn will never fill the Garden ever again without playing St. John's....NEVER! Even at sold out games prior to this mess there were a good 8,000 St. John's fans and students at the games. That is why they were "sell-outs". If you think an MSG ticket between Uconn and NC State will sell out the Garden....think again!
Having a Uconn grad in the family allowed me a glimpse of a post Uconn-Big East future when I watched Uconn and NC State in Uconn seats at MSG. At the Prestigious Jimmy V, there were two nationally ranked teams (NC ST and Gtown) and Uconn ---- playing a possible ACC future team--- did not sell squat! Attendance at this great double-header was a little over 11,000. Uconn did not fill the place.

Syracuse can, and will get MSG games but what will their future look like post Boeheim?? ND wants St. John's and visa-versa. Period!

Now a word from our sponsor.....the Big East Network.

If I'm Mike Aresco I consider calling Oak Hill, Findlay Prep, Montrose Christian, St. Benedict's and St. Anthony to join the 'Big East'

With UCF, USF, SMU, Tulane, etc., those prep schools would likely win most matches. There will be no "Big East" all sports after 2014. The schools above along with any remaining football schools will not want the Big East name since it will make them look stupid from a PR POV. Whether there will be a price attached or not, the Big East name will go with the founding members.

A real easy way to exhibit the travel partner setup is the Pac 12. For hoops the teams are aligned in pairs, WA, OR, SoCal, NorCal, AZ and UT/CO. One pair will visit the other pair and play thereThursday/Sat or Sun so they don't have to come home between games. The weeks they play each other (UCLA vs USC for example, twice during the conference season) they can either take a bit of rest or schedule a non/conf game. They don't play each other twice on the same weekend.

Forgetting things like travel, here is how I would rank the teams that have the most appeal for making this basketball conference:

1.) Butler
2.) Gonzaga
3.) Xavier
4.) VCU
5.) St. Louis
6.) Dayton
7.) Creighton

"Right now UConn, as far as recruiting goes, is in 'no man's land,'" said Paul Biancardi, a veteran coach and ESPN's director of recruiting coverage. "Two basic questions every kid has are, 'What league am I going to play in?' and 'Who is going to coach me?' … Then comes style of play and how he would be utilized, but right now he couldn't answer the first two questions."

"When UConn was in the Yankee Conference, they were in 'no-man's land' then," Biancardi said. "They didn't have championships, they didn't have swag. They joined the Big East, and they hired a young coach from Northeastern and it took Jim Calhoun how many years to build that brand? … They had a brand, with the Big East, and now it's blown up."

The below letter was forwarded to me. The letter was sent to Villanova students, alums and others within the Villanova community.

December 15, 2012

Dear Alumni, Parents and Friends,

Villanova is embarking on a new and exciting course for its athletic programs -- one that seizes control of our future, while building on the traditions, values and rivalries that energize our teams and fans.

Last week, I and the Presidents from Georgetown, Providence, St. John's, Seton Hall, DePaul and Marquette, spoke with the Big East Commissioner about the future of the conference. We informed him that our schools are actively exploring avenues through which we can best support our interests and ensure our national prominence. Earlier today, we voted unanimously to pursue an orderly evolution to a foundation of basketball schools that honors the history and tradition on which the Big East was established. This is a group of like-minded schools with excellent academics, great athletic histories and traditions, national caliber basketball programs, and passionate fan bases in major media markets.

As members of the Villanova community and fans of Villanova athletics, I want to assure you that this was a thoughtful and strategic decision. We have the necessary resources to support all our athletic programs, and we are confident and excited about this direction -- especially as we know there will always be an appetite for elite basketball.

Villanova, and this new basketball framework, is well positioned to capitalize on that hunger. Villanova offers top tier basketball in the fourth largest media market in the country, and together with our fellow Big East basketball institutions, we account for four of the top five media markets. Collectively, these seven schools can claim three men's basketball national championships and 18 Final Four appearances. Villanova teams alone boast 82 conference championships and 19 NCAA team championships. I am confident that Villanova's athletic programs -- men's basketball and beyond -- will continue to compete at the highest levels.

This is not a move that will be made overnight. This will be a strategic evolution into a new framework, involving a period of transition to address issues of structure, membership and media partnerships. Villanova is working closely with these like-minded institutions to protect and advance our common interests at all levels. I strongly believe this is the best course for Villanova, our student-athletes, and our alumni and supporters.

Together, these institutions look forward to building this new foundation with an emphasis on elite competition and a commitment to the development of our students engaged in intercollegiate athletics. That is where we will now spend our energy as we move forward.

At Villanova, we are looking to protect our University and promote it -- to ensure that Villanova is a nationally recognized institution that lives by its values, and seeks to educate all its students to think critically, act compassionately and succeed while serving others. This decision is about controlling our future, strategically positioning the university for future growth, and securing an environment in which Villanova can thrive.

This is the right decision for Villanova. Vince Nicastro, Villanova's athletic director, and I have worked closely with our board, University leadership and coaches, and I know that we are all eager for this new chapter in Villanova's history. I look forward to keeping you updated as we move forward.

Go Nova!

Sincerely,

Fr. Peter Donohue, OSA
President
